Whining Noise

I traded my 04 for a 05. My 05 has a whining noise any time I accelerate above about 2000 rpm's and quits when I reach my speed. My wife says my 04 did the same thing but since I am tone deaf to certain frequencies, I couldn't hear it.

I am hoping that the noise is simply the turbo spooling. Perhaps I can now hear it since it may be louder than the other engine or a different frequency. It is a pretty noticeable.

Any feedback will be appreciated.

well if this truck has an aftermarket air intake then its a good possibility that its turbo.
What got me attracted to this thread was the fact I have a little squeel starting about 2000 and quitting once up to speed, more so on a harder accel. I have turbo sound with my afe intake so I know its not that. This sounds more like belt slippage which I thought maybe was it because it started when it was really cold. Now it does it when it wants to. Turbos whistle, whining is done more by broken parts or ford owners.

Mine still has the stock intake. And, it could easily be described as a sort of whistle. It is simply something that I didn't hear on my old one.

I am sure the *********** will tell me not to worry about it, "they all do it".

Check your intercooler boots.... when there isn't a load on the engine and you aren't building much boost you may not hear anything, but when it builds boost it may be forcing air from around the boot... make sure the clamps are tight and the boots are on all the way.

Hey, thanks. I will check the boots. BTW, mine is an automatic.

Maybe the noise is nothing but you know how it is when you trades trucks. I bought the 04 new so didn't worry about much of anything. This one, of course, is used (40K miles) so I am looking for every little thing that may be wrong. I can be a real pessimist when it comes to a vehicle!

A couple of guys in my Jeep club think someone may have removed the silencer ring from the turbo. I will check as soon as I get time.

Does it still make a sound when your off the throttle? On my 97 It made a whining noise and it was the rear diff. It was missing 2 teeth off the pinion.

The noise is definitely coming from under the hood. Of course, I guess it could be coming from the front axle!
