faint whining noise from grid heater?

This morning I left the door open while the grid heater was cycling and noticed a very faint but weird whining noise that was only there when the "wait to start light was on". The computer didnt give off any codes but Im just a little concerned since Ive never noticed it before (then again I dont usually have the door open or the windows down on a cold morning ). Has anyone else noticed this noise?
Thanks, Drew Stuart

i vote that the mouse on the inside is still very rare, toast it for a few more mins . i just had to say that. I haven't heard a whine from mine, but I have heard poping and cracleing i am guess ing there was a like to much moisture in the air on mine. are you sure the whine was from the heater ans not the Belt on the motor slipping due to the amp draw?? the grid heaters cause. or the alt whineing from the strain just some ideas

Mine has been whining for some time now. Doesn't seem to do it as bad if it has been plugged in or if the temps aren't that low. I keep wondering if it is something I should be worried about. I have gotten pretty used to it now.

I will be interested in what this thread digs up for information.

Good or bad, I dont know.
However, on cold mornings, my grids have done that since Ive owned the truck.

Ive just assumed it was the power going through the grid relays, or perhaps the grids themselves.

Rich.

Thanks for the quick replies! That makes me feel a lot better that you guys have noticed this noise too. Also, I dont know if its the grid heater that is actually making the noise or not, I just know that I only hear the "whine" while the "wait to start" light is on.

The 200 amp draw the grid heater uses will create a whine or hum type noise as the grid strips start to glow cherry red. This is normal.
