I RV with 2 brothers-in-law and 1 friend that have automatic 2nd gen trucks. Mine has 92000 miles, 1 @ 66000, 1@ 72000, and 1 @ 54000 miles. All 3 are chipped with 65-70 HP modules and 4" exhaust .... everything else is stock. None has ever experienced a powertrain problem of any kind. Let me rephrase that, I replaced a weak lift pump at 85000 miles.

Two trucks pull 33' trailers at 12000# and 2 pull 5vers at 12000# and all have 3:55 tails. About a 1/4 of the miles on each truck is while towing. We run 68 most of the time and will bounce up to 75 occaisonally.

So, pretty durn reliable from my experience.

Tranny fluid changed annually on all, oil at 5000 miles.

pull a trailer mabey at the most 1 every 2 months.
tranny is crap, went through 3 of them within 12000 miles with just a comp box. no drag box just comp. had to take it off so many times that way dealer would warrenty. after the last one, i went witha full DTT trans and i LOVE it. best mod to date.

'99...bought it with 96K on it, transmission exploded at 97K, had a new one put in (stock 47 RE); No history on what was done to it prior to my buying it, but the rest of the truck was in EXCELLENT shape, I assume it was taken care of....

...I've a VB sitting in the garage waiting to be installed (tomorrow?) in preparation for adding some more go-power via a chip / tuner.

69,500 miles.
Pull my 5er, or a 22' car hauler(loaded), or a 16' utility trailer at least twice a month.
At 30K, band adj./fluid and filter change.
At 60K, fluid change.
I don't hesitate to drop it out of OD and run in 3rd/lock-up if conditions require it.
Absolutely no problems.

Daily Driver, Orignal Tranny, Had Transgo Shift Kit installed at 50,000, 3 FLuid and filter services. Tow twice a year and run about 600 miles on weekend to the Mountains of N.H.

I did lots of towing for almost 5 years, with just a shift kit(that helped immensely)especially with any type of towing box installed(I had VA). When I got the MAD ECM, I could feel it slip only a couple of times from a very hard launch. So I upgraded my transmission before I fried it(much cheaper that way). I did have Torque converter c/o under warranty in 2003, because of lockup in 4th slipping when towing it showed up(not bad though for 3+ years). I thought my transmission was pretty good stock though, just not as good as now. Any power upgrades should be accompanied with equal trans upgrades, to prevent a costly repair bill.
