Trying to get a sense of really how good or bad this tranny is. Soooo,

Year and Truck
Mileage
Driving type (lots of towing or daily driver etc)
Problems you've had

Example:

2001 3500
67,000
Daily driver, towing car on trailor twice a month
Tranny went out at 47,000..........tranny is perfect, tranny slips like crazy, tranny is great/crap

You get the idea, thanks!

Daily driver, some towing (19'boat, 20' equipment hauler) bought it at 30K, so I can only imagine what it had been used for before I got it.
New valve body at 40k (DC got lucky!) good to go so far...

Upon finding this handy little site, I learned I probably just needed a gov. pressure selonoid (or something like that) Oh well, live and learn it was only TWELVE HUNDRED BUCKS at the dealer.

Lesson, next CTD I get will be a 5 or 6 speed.

1999 3500 ....... currenty 91,000 miles (updated 05-6-06)
Daily Driver (mostly empty in city traffic, tow a small trailer 2-3 times a year)

Have trans temp gauge in Hot Line, temps never over 200*
Trans fluid changed and bands adjusted at 35,000 mile intervals.

Tranny went into limp mode on a trip, @ approx 75,000 miles.
(No OD, No 1st gear) Made it home ~500 miles running 55 mph @ 2800 rpm
(Cummins is TOUGH)
Now rebuilt with Dave Goerend's Torque Converter, & Valve Body.
This is how they SHOULD run from the factory.

I wish Goerend made Air Conditioning parts........

just as reference:

i will be hauling mostly (12ft dump bed) unless grabbing a mini excavator or skid steer from a rental company. hauling will be mostly plants but bulk material is by the ton (sand, gravel, stone, soil and mulch is heavy too).........the truck will be for sidework ('01 3500 50k)

180K miles original tranny, some heavy towing, boats, Bobcats, cattle trailers, tractors, hay, driven every day.

I have had fluid flush 3-4 times, bands adjusted once, filter changed once.

Not sure how I can complain about that. Next tranny will be built by Georand Bros.

I think alot of guys don't read the manual on how to use an auto tranny; try and tow in OD, when to use 4L, let the TC slip like crazy, a little common sense goes along way.

At 50k, the trany should get a service,(fluid and filter change as well as a band adjustment.) this is just common sence. Also if you are just picking it up as a used truck, a oil and filter change would be prudent too. Followed by fuel filter. and check the fuel press. Good luck with your truck. Also fill out your profile with truck info. "Ironbutt"

2000 1 ton: haul equipment 5-10 times a year. other that its my dd. 1st changed fluid@100k(trans started to hick-up..slipping?-don't know?) add a ground wire to trans and throttle position sensor...kick-up still there, but on at 1000 to 1600 rpm after that its fine. now 118k-no problems-yet .

yeah its getting a good look over tomorrow..........what fuel pressure range is good and not? also, i don't know anything about bands or even what they really are......but i am mechanically inclined (torn my car and buddies apart + engien swaps), is that something someone can do themselves or does it require the dealer? or just a mechanic? costs?? thanks for the help!!

truck info will go up after i get it, no truck no info

80K miles
Driven 14 miles round trip to work daily
Pulls either a 21ft Chapparal deck boat on weekends or the race rig in my picts a couple times a month up some nasty grades.

Probs: bought used with 26K on it, installed a torque convertor at 34K. Probably should have done the input shaft seals while I was there, but I slammed it in on a friday so we could leave for a race that night. Been ok since and that's with an EZ on it. Previous owner pulled a 10K+ fifth wheel quite a bit, so the damage may have been done when I bought it. I have another 47re laying in the garage for it. Just need an overhaul kit and some thrust washers, new pump, and an upgraded convertor. Will do that when I need to. I'll also add that I service the trans once a year.

115,000 miles on mine.
Tow 10-12 times a year 8-12,000 lb trailer.
At 100K did a valve body kit, started to shudder when going into lockup-Kit cured the problem for dthe las 15,000 miles
I have had an edge EZ since 93,000

My Dad's 96-47RE
75,000 miles, 60,000 of them with a 17,500 lb trailer in tow !!!
This truck has a valve body kit, but has extra "HP Parts"

3.55 Auto
almost 29,000
Pulls horse trailer round about 100 miles everytime (about 9,000#'s)
Only thing that i've noticed about it is that i sometimes get stuck shifting to 4th/overdrive. Like it sits at a certain rpm but if i let off gas it shifts. I read that some others have the same problem. Oh well, what can you do.
