First, I think your VP44/IP is proabably going south. Dead Pedal & 216, do a search here. A bad VP44 will contribute to poor fuel economy. As the IP wears, apparrently the fuel economy gets worse. I got a rebuilt pump at 52k,a fairly common ocuurence. I think Blue Chip is the way to go. he will lend tools to help you do the job. Many on this site have done it.
The stock air box is fine.
I would look at cleaning your radiator & boost cooler. The stock puke bottle overflows or drops off, leaving oil film over everything, contributing to high temps. I trashed the puke bottle, ran a heat tolereant line down to the drivers side fendor.
I tow up to 14k Fiver, seldom see 1000, but I do not push it harder than I need to. 18 PSI is stock, & I can live with that. I see about 20 mpg at 60 solo, 4.11 gears. You should see 22-24 at 60, at least 20 at 70 with 3.55's. I get about 15 with low profile utility trailer(weight does not matter much), 10-12 with the 12' 14k Fiver. All these are about normal at optimal speed, 55-65.
I guess you have an FP gauge at this point. A Boost gauge is a nice extra.
I would try to see if you could get a second opinion on the pyro. If your gauge is not mechanical, it may be more prone to false readings.
You did not indicate what your water temps were doing when you were hitting 1250?
The biggest way to improve milegae is slow down (No one wants to hear this.)
If you are not in a hurry try driving 60 or 65, experiment with the speed. It will drop over 70 for sure, as these are aerodynamic bricks.
Also, best pratices advise running 2 stroke TCW3 (Wally world sells this in the marine section) and something like white (Cold weather) or silver Power Service, also available at Wally. There are numerous othe flavors. The oil, in theory helps your IP, FP, an quits the valves. Maybe even a little better mileage, maybe.
In summary, new VP44, check radiators & clean if needed, and have your Temp gauge checked, if you can. Lots of people run a lot of weight with these 02 3500's.
One last note, the VP44 can fail on it's own, evn with good fuel pressure & everything else. I have seen it on my truck, as well as several others.
Once you have new VP, you will probably feel like you died & went to heaven, it will run that much better.
That dead pedal may fail all together at some point & leave you stranded, just a word of caution. It can also leave you in a dangerous situation on the freeway.
You will love your truck once it is running right.
Good Luck!!

is the pyro tap in the right spot? I'm not sure if there is a wrong spot. I have a superchip and mine only heats up a bit at 7 tons.nothing close to melt down mode....

My old 02 that I used to have had : bad lift pumps, dead pedal on the injection pump (had to be replaced) and the APPS went bad. I got rid of it because of these problems. They should have stayed with the 12 valves and the P 7100's

Just wanted to thank everyone for thier help. I put the boost elbow on and it help my exhuast temp problem. I would have put a lot of money into it, with no result if it wasn't for the help of everyone. So I'll fix the IP when I get more money.

Ok this is totally off the topic but seem so stupid, but if dodge can make a programmer on the ignition. That tells you what is wrong then why is there a 1693 code, why don't they just put it on the key programmer. Why have two different things.

I just wanted to thank everyone that help me out. I have just put a new VP in and a airdog 100. My truck is running good and I would not have been able to put that money out there if it was not for your help. I spent money I did not have but I'm happy to have a truck that runs and pulls good. Thanks once agian.
