Are 02 dodges that goood

I bought my 02 HO cummins, 3500, 4x4 four years ago, the truck had 47,000 miles and was in ment condition. I wanted that body style and I heared nothing but good things about them. I have 75,000 miles on it now and I have had to replace the turbo, the lift pump and now they say I new a injector pump. Heck i'm not even that impress with the fuel mileage. When I first got it I was lucky to get 16 empty now its 14 tops. The only reason I bought this truck, is cause it thought I would have it for awhile and not have to put much money in to it, as you can see I don't put much mileage on it. I do pull some with it and I'm not that hot about it. I have a 92 ford diesel with a banks turbo on it. I have to spend a little to keep it going but it pulls about as good as the dodge. I mean I have a hard time keeping the dodge cool. It has the power if I could use it but I can't. I put the edge altitude chip, 4 inch exhaust from the turbo back about a year ago and I run it on tow haul. But when I run up a hill or get on it. My exhaust temp spikes above 1250 real fast.
I guess my question is, did I buy a limen or did I expect to much from this truck.
Thanks

Should run circles around that old Ford, if its a 4x4 dually with auto.
What did you do with your turbo for boost and air filter?
What gears does it have and how heavy are you towing?
Are you winding it out or lugging it?

i love my 02, and the lift pumps are known to go out starving the injection pump of fuel.. especially running an edge on the stock lift pump. instead of replacing the lift pump with another oem, i would use a fass, airdog or a raptor to supply enough fuel as well as a fuel pressure gauge to keep tabs on the pressure. As long as you keep the fuel lubricated by running some 2 stroke oil with the fuel and the rec. fp of 14-17 psi you should be good and will love the truck again... trust me i feel the pain as i have the death code of the IP so once i throw my raptor on ill be changing the pump very soon.

It would run circles around it, if I was not worried about melting it to the ground. I have the 3:55 in it and I bought the truck to haul. It pretty much has a loud on it if I'm driving it. Most of the time its lite, but I will put a load of 7 ton on.
I don't have the K&N filter on it, and I had the turbo rebuilt.
It gets hot when it on the higher end, its not when I lug it. I know when my ford lud I need to down shift, It also has the six speed tran.

It drives me nuts from what people have said. I had a performance lift pump put in it and I have good pressure now. That is why I bought the edge is so I had the gauges. I want this truck to be a pullin machine. I really baby it for the most part. I put the lucas oil treatment in it every oil change and the fuel treatment in it when I fuel up.

It is uncommon to loose a turbo with such low mileage.
Are you shutting it off with high EGT'S????
Let the EGT's drop to 350 before you turn it off.
VP44 is going to fail as a stock pump. Spend the money on a good Blue Chip pump and it will last longer than most any other rebuild.
Are you putting 7 tons in the bed???

No, I pull trailers full of hay and cattle. I also try to wait till at less it drops below 400.
Just asking? I have read the blue chip page about pumps, and it seems they know there stuff, but why is his any better than any other ones. Thier stuff seems pretty pricey.

What did you do to get more air to cool the turbo?

I guess I have not done anything. To be honest, everyone side the exhaust would do a hole lot. I've just got to the point were I really don't want to but money into it unless I know it well make a differince.
My Turbo went out before I even put the chip in it. It also did same dead pedal thing as it does now, just not as bad. When the turbo went out I took it to a shop and they put it in and they hooked it to the machine and said it was good. It costed it me $100 just to hook it up. Others have said the exhaust. I know it need a high flow air filter, But not tell I get the rest fixed.
I guess I'm just a little upset. Cuase I have spent more on my 02 dodge with 75000 miles on it than I ford with 215000. If I knew that was the way it was going to work I would have put $23,000 into my ford. It may not bug me that much if I had the money to just throw into it. But I don't.

If you can't afford turbo and intake upgrades just turn the box down till it doesn't overheat. We all do this

I understand. I'm just upset cause. If it ran fine, I would be happy. I turn it off when hauling a big load. Either way it gets hot. Or at less I think so, from what I have herd you don't want to be getting above 1200 degress on your exhaust temp. Am I right or wrong about this. I have got it that hot with the chip turned to 0, when i was pulling.
I'm not trying to be a pain in anyones butt. Just wondering if I have 75,000 miles should I have already needed to change the turbo, lift pump and know the VP 44.

Shouldn't run that high with the box off, sure the gauge is reading correct?

To be honest no, but when its cold they read close to the same. The engine temp and the exuast temp, like in morning when starting. The engine is a little cooler by maybe 5 degrees. I just figure that is cause its easier to warm air and not water.

I'm sure the edge puts out more fuel than my xzt+ but I turn mine off when pulling and just run the injectors (100hp) and temps are never a problem. Do you have your wastegate closed so it won't dump air? Just some thoughts but I would upgrade the injectors and leave the box for playing.
