hey phox, what numbers do you think the needle of an EGT gauge would be pointing at to do that damage?

I think the gauge needs the "OK, OK, that's enough, ouch" reading.

01 flameout

OK, first off, this is NOT from my truck.. this is a customers, the head is junk, #'s 1 and 2 pistons are junk, block "might" be salvagable if the deck is not to bad, he flamed 3 fire rings, the gasket, sunk 2 valve seats way up in the head. ( oh buy the way, nor did i build this one, he had 3 different shops work on it over time, i just get to fix the mess) he is a young fellow, that is EXTREMELY hard on trucks, i just put a rear in this one 3 months ago.
yes it has gauges, no i doubt he reads them. it was studded, fire ringed, marine gasket, seemed to be built right, just abused. these are cyl, 1 & 2 chambers
Scott

Looking for an 01 HO long block as of now.

I'd say your average EGT guage would be pegged, and for a while to cause that much damage.

Engines can run at 1250F all day long, many see short spikes of 14-1500+ during drag races or dyno runs.

That much damage would have to be 1400+ up a pretty good hill.

Yea i'd have to agree with ya on that one, that damage is 1600+ in a mud hole, wide open for a while from what i've been told.(you NEVER get the whole story when there's damage ) This truck has a comp, 200 horse inj. and a stock 35, no wonder it gets hot.(plus you Know HO's are prone to heat problems, cept i always have seen the problems on 5/6 not 1/2)
