Who makes a quality voltage regulator?

I've had to convert to external voltage regulator on my 2nd gen and I haven't had any luck with an aftermarket regulator working like stock. I'm on #3 in 6 months, one from pepboys went full field yesterday. 2 from Autozone, one pulses so bad it makes the truck rock back and forth. Other charges at 15.3-4 and pulses. Had similar problems with other brands after a couple months.

Who makes one that works? I have checked and cleaned connections, reference wiring is through a 30a relay with 12g wire off drivers battery. Ground off both batteries, alt case right to regulator case with 12g. Tried another alternator just in case, same results.

I buy them from the Dodge dealer. I think they run about 50 bucks, but they work. The ones I get from all the places you mentioned are junk, before I found out Mopar still sold them I'd buy 2 and throw one in the glove box.

Good to know you can still get them from Mopar.
I used to screw two of the parts store ones to the firewall of my old Powerwagons or Ramchargers.
I would use one of the VR bolts to hold the spare to the firewall, so if one died, I would just swap the plug over two inches. No tools needed!

5234625, looks like you can get it for about 40 bucks online, should also be a TON of them in your local yard, they were used in most Chryslers up till about 1989............. Small cars, Minivans, etc...

I think these bigger 120 Amp alterenators take a larger current regulator than the smaller amp stuff. I want to say it was 6 amp instead of 4 amp. I am running an SMP one I purchased in 2007 and not had a problem. SMP use to source from the same manufactures as Chrysler/Ford/GM. But things might have changed with euroasia manufacturing taking over the aftermarket.
If you buy a Mopar part, look closely at the part for it's manufacturing origin. Be interested if it's USA or elsewhere. Got my new parking lamps- made in the usa!

Balmer has both single step and multi step regulators for when they absolutely have to work

Balmar | Marine Charging Systems | Battery Monitors | Multi-Stage Voltage Regulators | High Power Alternators | Serpentine Pulley Conversions.
