Who makes a quality voltage regulator?

I've had to convert to external voltage regulator on my 2nd gen and I haven't had any luck with an aftermarket regulator working like stock. I'm on #3 in 6 months, one from pepboys went full field yesterday. 2 from Autozone, one pulses so bad it makes the truck rock back and forth. Other charges at 15.3-4 and pulses. Had similar problems with other brands after a couple months.

Who makes one that works? I have checked and cleaned connections, reference wiring is through a 30a relay with 12g wire off drivers battery. Ground off both batteries, alt case right to regulator case with 12g. Tried another alternator just in case, same results.

I buy them from the Dodge dealer. I think they run about 50 bucks, but they work. The ones I get from all the places you mentioned are junk, before I found out Mopar still sold them I'd buy 2 and throw one in the glove box.

Good to know you can still get them from Mopar.
I used to screw two of the parts store ones to the firewall of my old Powerwagons or Ramchargers.
I would use one of the VR bolts to hold the spare to the firewall, so if one died, I would just swap the plug over two inches. No tools needed!

My dealership is useless without a VIN, you don't have a part # by any chance?

5234625, looks like you can get it for about 40 bucks online, should also be a TON of them in your local yard, they were used in most Chryslers up till about 1989............. Small cars, Minivans, etc...

68 to around 90 is the year range Dodge used them.

I think these bigger 120 Amp alterenators take a larger current regulator than the smaller amp stuff. I want to say it was 6 amp instead of 4 amp. I am running an SMP one I purchased in 2007 and not had a problem. SMP use to source from the same manufactures as Chrysler/Ford/GM. But things might have changed with euroasia manufacturing taking over the aftermarket.
If you buy a Mopar part, look closely at the part for it's manufacturing origin. Be interested if it's USA or elsewhere. Got my new parking lamps- made in the usa!

Balmer has both single step and multi step regulators for when they absolutely have to work

Part Number;

P-3690731 is what I use, ebay it. I try to support mopar when I can, it's good stuff and most of it is Made in USA. Oil filters are not that bad priced at walmart either.
