Wheel torquing questions

I would like to know, haw tight are the dual wheels supposd to be?
I always put mine on extremely tight and have never had any problems yet. but would like to know what the recommended torque is on a dual wheel. I already know the tightening order but just need some facts. Thanks,
Wheelo

Im not sure what 18654372 meens. but any one should know. snug up all your lug nuts. Than tighten than in an X pattern. If you started on top and numbered 1 through 8 I would do--15847362 or 15263748

Agreed on the "X" pattern.

As for how tight - I take that Dodge lugwrench (two-sided with a 3' bar), snug the lugnuts, then stand on the end of the bar for each lug. When the resistance holds me in the air, it's tight enough. I figure that's around 350 ft-lbs (175lb me x 2 ft bar) - but boy do I hate it when a good set of duals passes me going down the highway. Rather have them too tight than worry about them coming off.

Just a hint from the owner's manual: Get a pair of tapered lug nuts and use them to center the wheels before you install the flanged nuts. Sounds crazy, but that's the only way to make sure the wheels are centered on a 1st gen dually.

Hey Wannadiesel,
I can see where that would center the wheels up and give you a beautifull fit. I have one quick question though. Is it really possible for me to mess the threads up tightening the studs too tight with the tools that i am using. I am using a 3/4 inch drive breaker bar with a 6 inch long extension. The breaker bar is around 2 feet long and with my weight of 150 lbs. , is it poosible for me to break things? Thanks a million guys for all the information you have given me!!!!!

I didn't think it up, Dodge did.

As long as you don't jump up and down on the end of the bar you'll do fine. They won't fall off at 300 foot-lb. (150 lbs X 2 foot breaker bar)
