Torquing questions

I am wondering if you can get an accurate torque on nuts using a crow's foot and torque wrench. You can't use a socket because it is the nuts on the hi pressure fuel lines. If this doesn't work how do you all do it. Thanks

I have asked the same question. The response I got was to use the crows feet and torque wrench. This is the only way to do it...

a torque wrench is calibrated for a specific length. a crows foot effectively changes the length from the drive to the fastener so the leverage will change which affects the torque applied. now of course the difference will be slight. but if we are talking about a 1" offset when torqueing to 120ft-lbs, it may be 2lbs off, but when torqueing in an inch pound range, 1" offset would be a significant change.

you can negate the offset by mounting the crowsfoot at 90*.

at least that is what we teach here.

direction does not matter, you just cant change the length of the tool. but we are talking about miniscule amounts. it is unlikely that a clicker type torque wrench is accurate to 2 lbs or so.
