Question Aftermarket Injectors for First Gen

Hello everybody, I own a 1990, 2x4, non-intercooled, turned up pump and 14cm housing. I'm planning on replacing my injectors soon. The stock ones have over 300,000 miles on them and I want more hot rodding power. I was wondering what you geniuses would recommend for a good injector. I'm looking for something like a 30-50 hp increase. Nothing too major. Some that have been blueprinted so the fuel is the exact same over all cylinders would be appreciated. Thanks
Dan

I dont personally run them, but most on here will say the p.o.d's are their choice for a performance injector.p.o.d is prince of darkness by the way.

With a non-intercooled truck POD's are only going to gain you 30-40hp which is what your looking for. Piers sells their POD's in balanced sets.

From what I have heard/read, 190's in a non-intercooled truck are disappointing because they have a larger injector stock than the intercooled models.

But POD's, Bosch 190's, and I think there are a few other, are pretty much it without going to a custom EDM nozzle.

For towing I would go with the 190's. But with a play truck i would go for the PODs thats what I have and I like them. I do a little bit of towing and i have never had any problems. But when I am towing heavy it is always waggons so i can go very fast.

Another question.... I've heard and read that POD's like to smoke or haze at idle. Is this the case for you? And is it easy to get the pump adjusted just right so they wont haze? And if I have somebody that knows what they're doing adjust my timing, will that help me gain some more hp/tq?

My POD's do not haze at idle that bad, there is a noticable haze but nothing major. Under normal driving they do not smoke at all, maybe just a light haze. Adjusting the pump will not affect the idle haze as that has to do with the injectors themselves. Adjusting your timing will give you a little HP, cut down on smoke and haze, and help your fuel mileage.

What would be a good advance for my timing? 2 or 3 degrees? More?

With POD's shove it over to the head. They need all the timing you can give them.

Oh boy, I have to flaunt my ignorance on that one...

Care to explain the theory behind why that is? More fuel equals more timing? I didn't know that they were relative...

Thanks.

I have PODs and they make good power, however you will lose some fuel milage. I would try some EDMs. They will maintain fuel milage and make good power. EDMs are a bit more expensive than PODs. PODs are bestbang for the buck, but if I had to do it again I would go with EDMs. Hot Rod Diesel can help you find what you need.

The pod's work well. When I tow I pretend I have a egg inbetween my foot and the loud pedal when I play I don't. I don't really care about the milage loss because I only drive around 3 mi to work and the prior pos got much worse milage. If you drive it sensible you'll get good milage (I got 18.5 one time with the pos's) just remember what you got and as the boost and pyro go up the fuel must come down. Jethrro

Just a reminder on the injector topic.....the earlier CTD's had a larger injector in them from the start...it would be like putting in Bosch 185's or almost the same as putting in the 190's ......you'd not seeing any major difference.
Those injectors in a later model CTD 91.5 - 93 would give us about 30'ish more RWHP.
The next step upward in injectors for the 89 - 91.5 group is the POD's or if budget permits, the most recent offerings in the EDM line of injectors we've been hearin about.
