Yeah I'm not a fan of the white faced gauges either.

I permanently wired the pigtail to the battery so I can hook up the trickle charger without opening the hood. Took all of 10 minutes. I don't like it because the stupid radio drains the battery when the truck sits for so long. I don't get to drive it much anymore.

I would appreciate any suggestions for how I could safely remove black paint from a Ram hood ornament.
I bet that if I gave it enough time, it would just remove itself.

Try soaking it in boiling water. It works for house paint.

Remove it and put it in a container of vinegar for a few days, or brush on some brake fluid over a week or two it might lift the paint?

A product called aircraft remover. Don't get it anywhere that you don't want paint removed though. I would remove it first:

Amazon Amazon

I was thinking I would try aircraft paint remover in a small spot and see if it would bubble up the paint without eating through. I've only used it on metal before.
Vinegar or brake fluid seems like the safer thing to try first though. I'll give it a shot this weekend.

Lacquer thinner. Take it off the hood and pour 1/2" in small bowl metal or plastic, soak it and use tooth brush to scrub.

I'm up in Williamson County. I bought my truck from a cedar chopper out near your neck of the woods in Pipe Creek.

The one on my pick-up looks like it's made of plastic with a metal shell. You can see where it's peeling off a little.
I put a rare earth magnet on it and it barely wanted to stick so I'm guessing it's a low grade stainless foil (302 or 304). Aluminum wouldn't have grabbed it at all. Definitely not metal on the inside and it's not a knock-off.

It certainly does remove paint though.
