Did the vent-tube clean-out thing to the rear end and transfer case today. Sadly, it's the first time I've done this. Luckily, nothing was plugged up. It doesn't take long unless you're me.

Truck would not start/ think quick.

Yesterday I was at a job in another county when I was hungry, so I stopped off at Der Wienerschnitzel for a quick bite to eat,

I pulled in the drive through and turned off my engine so they could hear my order, I restarted it and pulled on up to the window.

The girl was talking but I could not hear her so I shut it off again, I got my food and set it on the seat next to me and reached out and twisted the dash mounted switch to START.. the engine went crank crank crank crank crank crank but did not start,

What the heck this had me puzzled for a second because I know I have fuel, I look behind me and I see 2 cars and ahead of me the drive makes an abrupt left hand turn into the parking lot so I wasn't going to push it, I pop the hood, opened the door and slip out between my mirror and the drive up window sliding on ketchup packets on the ground, got under the hood and doing a quick check of the FSS wire was still on,

I touched the wire to the terminal but only heard a faint click so within a few seconds I pulled out my jumper wire and slipped it onto the spade terminal and on to the battery hoping this was it.

Dropped the hood slipped back into the seat and turned the key, it fired up as it always does within one revolution and I got out of the drive and into the parking lot.

The entire driveway event with the wire took less that 60 seconds, don't think anyone behind me even know I had a problem.

Now I am in the parking lot and of course it will not shut off so I opened the hood and pulled the battery wire and ate my food.

With the rest of the day ahead of me I did not want to have to open the hood each time I stopped so I had a look around under the hood for a good switched circuit.

There it was, right in front of me, I clipped the wire to Term #87 of my headlight relay,.

Now,

START = I turn on the headlights and turn to start,

OFF = I turn off the headlights, it worked perfectly

Today I try to find what went wrong, looks like I intermittently lost power to the Dk/Blu wire, I tried to trace it through the harness but did not get too far,

Is this the same wire that feeds the fuel heater and KSB valve?

when it did come back on after wiggling all the harnesses and tugging on the fuse links I noticed with the engine off there was only 10-volts at the terminal, I think the blue wire is supposed to be a 14-ga wire but 2-volt drop is kind of excessive so I have to find where all of the connections are.

Since my 1991 does not have one, I am thinking of adding my own ASD relay to take a load off the aging wire and connections and to give the coil full voltage.

What do you think?

I might have just added a new layer to my Anti Theft System.

Jim

That's innovative, on-the-move thinking...I used to add an old fashioned, floor mounted dimmer switch to my starter circuit as an anti-theft device...I never had one stolen either...

I wish there was a Der Wienerschnitzel in my hood...It's my favorite hot dog...These days at fast food places, I always park and go inside to order...It's the only exercise I get anymore......Ben

D/W kind of has a special meaning to me,

Back in 07/01/1972 I met my soon to be wife there when I cruised in to the West Covina location in my 1970 Mustang Mach-I to get my free drink, she was the only one that charged me the $.07 for it.

We knew the owner John Galardi; he gave my wife her job.

So it is kind of an Anniversary thing.

Finally got my passenger side rear spring pack apart and started applying the Jim Lane treatment to it. Took me 2 days to get it off the truck, apart and cleaned up, grinding off all the rust and gouges. I am hoping the driver side goes quicker now that I know the better methods to get from A to B.

Was wd40ing my shock bolts and noticed the front leaf shackle bolt was missing it's nut. So is this a nut I can but at the hardware store or do I need a special one? The other one looks like any normal bolt, also what thread should that be?

I'd want to run a Nyloc or better yet a stover nut, most likely it's a standard thread....can you remove the one from the other side and take it down with you?

I asked this over on CF but I'll post it here too for a broader audience.

The question is which do you think will give the softer ride in the rear springs between the below options + spring tip inserts?

A: OEM syle rubber bushings. Rubber is softer and limits vibration, but is bound and works to limit spring moment.

B: Aftermarket Poly bushings. Poly is harder and transmits more vibration, but is unbound and allows the springs to move freely.

I don't know, maybe my OCD/ADD is getting the better of me and I am over thinking this....

I think the movement is really a moot point since the springs are pretty stiff so there really is not a lot of movement period. I would say using rubber bushings to mitigate vibrations through the frame.

Replaced the front signal lenses. Fixed some interior trim pieces and discovered I have another leak on passenger side of cab. Im thinking AC box gasket. Guess Ill replace that at same time as the steering shaft gasket leaking on the firewall. And my new cab light lenses arrived today.. new lenses and light gaskets this weekend...

Forgot to post this up....been a crazy busy few days off. Finished my last day of my night shift 4 days ago and was coming home around 4am....vehicle was following me fairly close and I had a weird vibe and thought it might be the police....well I was right as I came into town he flipped on his lights, so I pulled over. Cop walks up and says "Hey Brian how you doing!" Thought that was weird that he used my name like that, then he proceeds to let me know my insurance had expired 2 days ago....DOOOHHH!!! He was nice enough not to give me the $600 fine that this would have warranted, but would not let me drive it any further and I had to park it at the gas station I was right beside.

So after calling and waking up the wife we decided I would just sleep in the truck for 3-4 hours until she could swing by and get me on her way to work. When I woke up there was a cop sitting in the lot near me...my guess is they had been checking on me from time to time to make sure I was not some low life P.O.S and drive home anyway after the cops had left. Anyway wife drove me to get the insurance and all was well again.

Yesterday I got insurance for my trailer since my order of siding and supplies for the shop was supposed to be ready today. Hooked up the trailer last night to get ready for today and no and behold I had lights. Had brake and turn signals, but no running lights. Pulled it into the shop and climbed under neath and found that the main power for the trailer lights had corroded to blue goo in the connector under Ol' Patches. Found another connector in my spare parts and spliced that in and got everything working properly. Dragged the trailer around today but my order did not show up on the freight truck....so next week I guess.
