I’ve been done with the 47rh for a while. Yesterday it seems it decided it was done with me. It was fine all the way to work, but when I went to pull away from work it acted like it was either very low on fluid or out of fluid. I did not find any fluid under my truck and checked it and found it had enough fluid. It took about 4 blocks for me to be able to go over about 20 miles per hour. Once I got going it was fine, but getting going was a nightmare. It still jerks when I put it in gear at first, but then it is slow to move and feels like I’m starting it in 3rd even if I have in locked down into 1st. So then I tried taking off in first until it overcame whatever is wrong that makes it big down and it was in first. Then I moved it to 2nd and it shifted to second. Then I moved it to drive and it shifted into 3rd. If I just left it in drive and stopped it would downshift to 1st like normal and go through the gears like normal after it had enough time to overcome whatever it was getting bogged down by and could build boost.
finally got my new fuel sending unit in and filled up. Its strange to see the gauge on the dash move. Will be awhile testing though before I actually trust it

ah, the old two cycle Detroits. there was no way to stop them from leaking oil. then there was the drain tubes from the plenum chamber in the block.
I know a guy that has a 70s F250 with a 4-53 a 4 speed brownie and even a Jake brake.
I always said the old Detroits were great at converting diesel fuel into noise.

Back at it on round 2. Running WAAAAY behind schedule. Loaded the 26 footer to the gills. I’m tempted to stop at a scale to see what I’m actually pulling. My new fancy schmancy Weigh Safe ball drop developed a leak, and gushed hydraulic fluid out of the gauge, so I have no clue what the tongue weight is. I had to max out the Hellwig helper springs which are said to be able to hold 2500lbs level. Had 1 tire on the trailer catch a nail, fixed that in a Love’s parking lot. Thankfully I brought a floor jack, but 3.5 tons wasn’t enough to lift the trailer off the ground. Ended up driving the front wheel on a 2x4, then a 4x4 for a ramp and the jack had just enough oomph to let me change the rear tire. 3/4 drive ratchet and an cordless impact were life savers. Left on Friday....hit all of the holiday traffic up I-15. It took me 5 1/2 hours to go 80 miles, where I picked up I-40 to the RIGHT.
One of those load distribution hitches would have been nice, as I start getting the wiggles around 65mph. I’m holding 55-62 most of the way. Still managed to get up Cajon Pass at 47mph which impressed the heck out of me. Still have about 1/2 a trailer load of stuff to pick up in CA. My brother in law is coming out to AR sometime in July to pick up his trailer, so I get to save 3500 miles. Moving sucks, especially when you have literally 10 times more car parts and tools, than you do household items for a family of 4! Well, back on the road from Santa Rosa NM. I’m officially 1/2 way to AR, where I get the keys to the new place (rental). Hopefully, we’ll be able to find the right home this winter/next spring. Until then, EVERYTHING stays in storage and for the first time ever, I have no garage. On a side note, my last tank netted 23.6MPG!!!! But I think I forgot to reset my trip and mark down mileage on the previous tank... oops!

And this last tank actually came out to 11.97 mpg. I was hoping to average 12 mpg for the entire move by the time the move was complete. We’ll see.... more tuning on the AFC and my right foot

Highway 40 has a lot of long up hill pulls not so steep but long.

I drove an old GMC with a detroit in it.....it sure made a lot of noise. Fisrt day I was tossed on it I could barely get it to go I had never drove one before, so one of the old timers told me to drive it like you just slammed your hand in the door and you'll do fine. Was much better after that.

Scaled the truck. Anyone scaled their crew cab short bed 4x4? I never did a pre-trip Weigh in to get a base line.... but the front axle seems about 1400 lbs lighter than what I think I’ve read others having. She’s a handful since the load isn’t distributed the best... nothing I can do to change it, except drive carefully.

Yeah that was a pretty common saying in those days.
I can't decide if this gal is good or crazy. I didn't think a cabover could be shifted that fast.
