So the early one won't flow as much water as the closed rotor new style?

Again, I said this just a minute ago in a thread about the lift pump, If your original one lasted 200,000+ miles, then for $200 you are getting a pretty good value if you think about it. I would not put a $50 Autozone water pump on my truck. Would you buy a Chineese injection pump from Autozone? I didn't think so. Neither would I. I know It doesn't seem like it now, but you will be cursing yourself when it goes out in 10,000 miles, or even 20,000 miles. Do it once, and do it right, and chances are, you will never have to do it again. That is of course unless you keep your truck past the half-million mile mark

True, now if I could just jump into my time machine and go back to my Cummins parts dealer in 1990 and buy one of those good old high quality made in the USA pumps. The trouble today is those replacement parts are made world wide without 100% Cummins quality control. So that same pump that is made in China, imported, and reboxed could now be setting on your local Cummins dealers shelf. Yes, Cummins parts must meet certain standards but having worked in a Quality Control department for Rockwell International in the 1970's you get to see how much marginal and defective stuff actually makes it out of the factory for distribution even with stringent control in place. I personally think ALL automotive & industrial parts should be required to show the country of origin on the box or product.

Pretty much. Look at all the failures of the WP's on the common rail's these days. After 51k I needed one on my 06, while the 92' still has it's original one with 174k 18 years later. $200 Cummins water pumps would be worth it 18 years ago, but today $50 is about the most that's worth spending.

I was quoted $300 for a Cummins w/p via Mopar but decided on a $100 new aftermarket unit. I did buy a Cummins thermostat and seal, based on posts I read here.

what burns me up is that the seller replaced the pump just before I bought it and the dam thing is already leaking...my mechanic thinks he slapped a re-man in
