water pump

Is the cummins water pump really worth the price their asking.$199.00,or will the $49.00 gates from the parts store suffice.

i would spend the extra money and replace it right. and not have it fail in two months and have to do it all over again.

I replaced mine last August with a Duralast from Autozone for $50. I haven't had any problems at all. It's easy to replace and cheap! I'd prefer to go that route if I for some reason were having to replace it every year rather than $200 every time you need a water pump.

Cummins' has manufacturing plants all over the world. Cummins in charge of specifications and holding tolerances. I dont like parts making parts outside of the country anymore than anyone else but Cummins' reputation is on the line and their parts are better than the replacement ones.

I have a 92 that I replaced the water pump at about 275K, it know has over 500K( I'm not sure, the speedo quit about a year ago, for the third time) and the water pump is still keeping the origional engine cool. I bought it from Cummins.

No way would I spend $200 on a water pump.

Mine is a Chinese pump from a truck parts store (they had it in stock, Advance and Autozone didn't). Its been fine for about 5 years.

Some say there is a difference and that the better pump to use is as followed. Others may chime in just make sure you get the one like the first one.

Use this type of pump.

Do not use..

I replaced the pump on my 06' with a $50 one from Napa. So far so good, and I don't think I'll have any issues. When I replace the one in the 92' I'll probably do the same thing. No sense in spending $200 for a name, even if it is Cummins.

I've had my new pump on for a day and its still working, It was from a local parts house. 35$ reman Made in England, Most every water pump I've seen on a 6b has been an England built pump.

TLRMAN, why is the 1st one superior?

The closed fin type is supposed to direct water through the center of the pump more efficiently that the open fin type. I think the open fin type has slowly been phased out but I ordered a '92 for mine cuz I was told back then that it was an i/c water pump and I wanted the more efficient one.
