WASTEGATE Question.

I have a 12cm turbo with the waste gate blocked off, or non fuctoning. I'm a wus and NEVER had my truck floored, my boost keeps climbing, I alway back out a 20-25 psi. Could I possibly blow the head off this truck if I go WOT? Everyone on here goes WOT now and then, as I have read. Should I put a functoning wastegate on? I don't think I have even come close to the governer on this truck.

I have my fuel set to where I get 25psi boost max, so I leave the wastegate disconnected. If you get over 30 psi I would hook it up with a controller or more springs to limit boost to 25 or 30 psi. I want my truck to last forever so I limit mine to 25. Lots of people run more boost than me.

I've run 42psi with advanced timing and no problems (had me worried though). However, you'll be outside the map of the compressor at that pressure. You can probably go to 30psi or so before the compressor will become too inefficient. If I were you, I'd buy a manual boost controller from ebay (you could talk to wannadiesel on here to see the one he has) to adjust your max boost so that it doesnt exceed, say, 28psi until you get a bigger compressor.

Ya got to get the waste gate hocked up and working so you don't kill the turbo! but as for as puting the eng on the governer, well thats what its there for to keep you form over revving so going up to the governer is safe and as desined!......after you get you boost controlled

See thats the thing with the wastegate blocked I can't see or feel the full potential of my oil burner. Well without breaking something. Any good places to get a aftermarket waste-gate to handle up to 25-30 psi. I think the stocker on it will blow open toooo soon? Right? The last thing I want is to hurt the turbo or engine.

It's far easier to use the stock wastegate with a boost controller from Ebay. The one I got cost me less than $10 and allows me to set the boost at 34psi.

With the WG blocked off you could overrev the turbo and then BANG! Not a pretty sight.

Thanks to everyone for your info. Final stupid question, how could the wastegate be blocked off? I didn't do this setup so I don't really know.
Anybody have or can take pics of thier boost controller? Thanks.

There's no danger to the head gasket until you pass 45 psi. I'd worry about the turbo over 35 psi. With the fuel in your sig I don't think you'll pass 30 psi by much at full power. Floor it and see how much boost you get, I promise you nothing will break.

The easiest way to "block off" the wastegate is to not connect the actuator to a source of boost. Is there a can with a pushrod hanging off the turbine housing?

will you blow the head a 25....no. 30? no but now your starting to over stress the turbo......will it blow up 30-35 probably not just shortin the life of the turbo and cause EGT to raise to unsave leves if you keep you foot in it to long!

to blast it a fue time just to see were the boost will stop will not hern't a thing..........as long as you get scared at 35 esh and let up!
