Single Turbo + External wastegate Question

I was wondering, those of you with single turbos and an external wastegate mounted up.....................

Did you route the excess to the atmosphere or back into the exhaust downpipe......and why? I know where I would route it if I had two turbos but that doesn't look to be a reality anytime soon. Need to get some relief for my Kwikspool B1.

Thanks

Don't know about these trucks, but on the Porsche 956, 962, 935, 930... engines they get dumped to atmosphere. Want to guess which way I'd dump it?

KatDiesel,
I recently mounted my quickspool B1 on my 94' 12 valve. I added a 215 pump and all the goodies (4Kgsk, 370's, cut DV's, and more). My boost pressures would peg my 60 lb boost guage at 3/4 throttle in any gear. After a leaking occured in the head gasket region, I had to remedy the situation so I mounted a 38mm Tial wastegate to my exhaust manifold and routed the blow-off down to the downpipe. My boost pressures are now maxing out at 53 lbs of boost. I still feel that's a little high. I fire ringed and studded the head and this turbo is tough enough, but my drive pressures may be out of hand. I'm gonna check that all out soon.

Wet1: These porsches do dump the compressed air not the exhaust AFAIK- exhaust goes into the ehaust (and through the cat)- I'd splice it into the downpipe or make a separate small exhaust to a place where the black smoke doesn't bother me. Wouldn't like to have it under the hood.

Alpine,
The only Porsche's that dump into the exhaust system are the newer model 911 turbos. Everything street legal before the C2 turbos dumped into a seperate (mini) muffler and then to atmosphere. The US 77-79 930's did dump into the thermal reactors, but everyone ripped those of these models since it was a very bad design. ALL of the race hardware dumps seperatly. Heck, the exhaust systems on the 935's are only about 6" long, and that's just the elbow off each turbo!

Yep, the racers over here dump into a separate exhaust too- especially on the rear engine models. But on the diesel I think you could get into a soot problem and heat buildup under the hood if you just let it blow out in the air. Depending on the flow characteristics you could maybe use a T-shaped junction to reduce backpressure when the wastegate is open.
