I have a 93 cummins, its a w250 with a dually. Did dodge make duallys just being a w250? Is there anyways to tell by the vin? Thx.

 

Nope, the duallies were all 350s. Somebody may have just put a dually axle under the rear of a 3/4 ton. Does it have the proper dually wheels on the front or just 3/4 ton wheels? Also if it was always a dually, it would have come from the factory with cab lights on the roof, and three identification lights on the tailgate.

 

Could be just W250 fenders/emblems too. You can decode the vin many places online. You can even request a build sheet from Dodge

 

Some 250s had cab lights also and there were 5 lights on the tailgate of a dually.

 

There's too many variables with going by the cab lights and the tailgate.

The white sticker in the driver side door jam is gonna tell you if it's a dually or not. It'll also tell you what size tires it came with stock as well.

It's most likely a W250 with a dually conversion on the back, any pics of the truck?

 

also, if it's a w, the front axle on the duallys didn't have dually adapter's like the newer trucks do, the offset was actually cast into the hub and the d60 will have dually hubs on it.

There are no 250 duallys from the factory. There is a way of telling 250 or 350 by the VIN. The 6th digit will be a 2 or 3.

 

That's pretty confusing the way you wrote it. There still is a bolt on dually adapter bolted to the disc brake, however the hub is cast in it I think (been a few years since I had it out) I think the spindle bearings for the 4x4 ride in the cast extension like you said. It would be pretty hard to know the difference unless you had one to compare it to.

You door jamb should have 2 boxes on the tag, one says "dual wheels" or something like that with an x in it.

The shape of your wheel wells give it away too. But, also hard to compare to unless you had another 1st gen.

 

on the d60 for these first gen's theres no bolt on adapter, the hubs from a dually d60 and srw d60 are cast differently. i may have written that in a confusing manner, but there's not a bolt on adapter from the factory

Yeah that's true. My thought was that if his dually doesn't have cab lights, or the rear ID lights, it's pretty much certain that it wasn't built as a dually.

 

Enter your VIN number at this site in the proper year range and report back the GVW rating. DRW versions were 10,000 pounds and over. I believe the SRW 1 tons were 9,000 and the rest were listed at 8510. You may have to register over there first before you can access the decoder.
