violent shaking

my w250 shakes violently when i hit the brakes, only does it at hwy speeds, never when i am driving in town. seems to be coming mostly from the front end. it started about 7 months ago and is getting worse. i haven't been driving it lately, don't feel safe driving it on ice & snow.

any input is apprecated

thanks, nick

Most likely the rotors are shot. Excessive thickness variation or rotor runout. Have them checked out to see if they still can be machined. If not at min thickness, otherwise call napa and get yourself two new rotors.

front rotors usually make your steering wheel shake too. If so, take a good look at your calipers and slides. Heat is usually what makes them warp

You can use a vise grip to temporarily crimp the rubber brake line in the rear to verify that the rear brakes aren't causing the problem.

while I know many people have done this including myself if I absolutely have to, this damages the inside of the hose causing it to break down and fail.

Easy way to check if rear drums are out of round is to apply parking brake slowly while going down a dry road at slow speeds. Make sure no cars are behind you. If drums are out of round you will feel your truck shudder as it comes to a stop.

I just had this probelm in mine at highway speeds so i replaced the upper king pin springs and bushings. Now no more shaking when i brake at highway speeds. Then i got a death woble around town so i had to replace the tie rod ends and draglink. And it fix every thing. here is a link to the king pin part that i used. https://www.4wdfactory.com/store/cat...in-Front-Parts
They have the hole rebiuld parts or just the parts you need

I sorta have the same problem. Except my truck shakes when coming to a stop. Sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesn't. It almost feelings like the steering wheel is pulsing left to right and when it happens really bad it feels like the truck starts to rock left to right.

think its the front brakes or the rears? I checked all the bushing and everything feels tight. Havent checked the kingpins yet.

To fill out the sig, go to "user cp" and click on edit signature, I think it'll be on the left side.

I also have the same problem. Except I have new brakes and my rotors are turned. All the steering joints are replaced, I think I'm going to tear into the kingpins next. I don't get any movement out of them when I jack one wheel up, but 300K miles I'm sure they could be replaced.
