Very high idle

Within the last few days, my idle has been very high. Around 1200 RPM. I checked the throttle, and found the bolt to hold both throttle shafts was missing. I manually tried to slow down the idle by holding the throttle back, but it will not slow down. The throttle screw isn't touching the plate. I know that if I replace the bolt, it will not slow down the idle since the hole is still aligned with the slot. Is it possible that something has moved? No adjustments have been made, but I went from 750 to 1200 just like that. And it will not lower no matter what I do.

remove the throttle link from the pump and see if it idles better. maybe the lock nut, to the linkage came loose and tightend the linkage? just a gess.

Don't know about the missing nut, haven't been into a inj. pump (yet!) two say if it would cause this problem

Dave, actually the throttle screw is back out enough, its not touching anything, something had to slip/move. I just noticed this the last few days, and its gonna burn something out...LOL

Is it possible the bolt is stuck somewhere and holding you off idle?

Ok well I found 2 things. Under the fuel line the small metric bolt that holds the two plates together(slotted) was missing, I replaced with a new bolt, and then I found my real problem.

The nut came off of the idle screw. I backed it out about 4 times today, drove for about 30 minutes, and at a stop, she is singing away, and the throttle screw had turned back in just by vibration.

Ill either place a dab of medium loctite on it, or try and locate a nut for her.

Your motor must run backwards. Most of 'em back the idle screw out so the motor dies.
