Vacuum pump leaking oil

What a mess!

Has anyone used a kit like this to repair it? ~ http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...8616900&rd=1,1

If so, any tips, suggestions, rude comments?

Thanks folks,

David

I haven't rebuild a first gen vac but the 24v vac pumps are pretty simple the to look a lot alike!

just don't for get to put the cross washer in before you reassemble or you wont be able to remove the collar to put it in!

Isn't a new one pretty pricey? This one looks hard to beat for the price, and I noticed that the ad said "if you can't do it, ship it to us and we will do it for you." That's hard to beat .

Get the same kit from Cummins for $7.50 or so. $59.99 is a DC rip-off. I forget the Cummins P-N offhand, but there are only like 4 o-rings and a gasket for mounting it to the block.

I got one for a 24 valve truck at work. I did not do the install, but the truck isn't leaking any more. Go to Pete's website (fixinrams.com), get his number and give him a call.

Don't be afraid to do the work your self!

Theres a o-ring that gos between the to halfs of the pump, its self and a seal that go's behind the collar......were the p/s pump gos in!
If you can remove and install the vac. pump, you can rebuild it(reseal it, that is, becouse the vanes in the pump never ware out!)

While the kit does come with the seals and gaskets dpuckett mentioned, it also comes with a double-edged seal that supposedly works like . . . . .

The original seal was of a single-lip style. Allegedly, it's common to see where the lip cuts a groove in the shaft. It's said that a simple replacement doesn't always work as the groove eats the new lip.
The double-lip seal is said to overcome the issue by having the two lips ride on either side of the groove effectively making a "Good as New" seal.

The kit also comes with tools to aid in the install of the different parts (PVC fittings essentially). Spare O-Rings and seal are included if I screw the first up.

We'll see . . . . .. I wish they'd sent a sack of "Get-To-It".

As it turns out, Pete is the guy selling the kit.

Somewhere in the past there are posts on this subject. I have done both my trucks. There is a seal and o-ring. I went to a bearing house and got them I think it was about $2.50 for the seal and about .75 for the o-ring. They are both metric. I cant quite remember but I think the o-ring was 55mm x 59mm x 2mm
I cant remember the seal size, I do remember its 8mm thick but dont remember the other 2 demensions.
good luck
