turbo?

tomarrow i am going to pick up some parts for my truck. and included are compressor housings 12 cm ex housing 16cm ex housing and i i believe 1 of each has a wastegate. and there will be some other misc parts, but my question is my friend has 94 diesel. what turbo does he have its a 94 12v auto 4x4. and would a mix of the 1st gen turbo compenents be better for his truck? or is his turbo good for his truck? just trying to get some ideas?

thanks david

your buddies truck has an HX35 which is bigger than the firs gen turbo's so I can not see any gains from putting different parts on unless they are from a bigger turbo like and HX40 or something like that.

Actually your buddie's 94 has a WH1C.

Its a 56/60/12 wastegated first gen H1c, No MWE slot.

94 and SOME 95's had that turbo,

Hope that helps, a 94 will NOT have a hx35.

that helps a lot. all he has for an upgrade is a stack. he had his star wheel turned but turned it down for fuel mileage.

i was just wondering with all the parts im getting if i could somehow build him a good hybrid or something in exchange for his turbo. im not to familiar with turbo's yet but am slowly learning.

thanks for the info
david!

i think 95 they switched over. a mwe is a map wheel enhancement slot which is to eliminate or control compressor(intake side) fluttering, surge or whatever you wanna call it. the slot is a gap in the compressor housing. easy to tell if you have the housing off. i noticed a difference with my 5spd having one, eliminated all compressor surge

Yea liike the scary cool sounding noise when you floor it and let off.

My dad's one 95 had a factory "Hx35 but the other 95 we had a few months ago has a Wh1C.

His 94 turbo is nothing but your turbo you have now with a wastegated 12cm housing, which i don't recommend the 12cm on automatic trucks because things will get toasty (egt) on the top end due to the restriction.

I'd just take the turbo you have now and add a 60mm compressor kit and a 16cm housing, thats if you don't like the spool up of your current 18.5

ok so after looking at everything what do i need to make the hx35 work? instead of the clamp style turbo's what holds it in? or is it a clamp? my plan is to run the wastegated 16cm ex housing with the hx35 compressor housing. and the wheel i assume is stock i can get the numper of fins and all the info if needed but it fit perfect. thanks for the help!

So wait,

Whats stopping you from putting the 16cm on the HX35?

The hx35 will bolt right up to the manifold/downpipe but you'll have to figure out something with a wastegate of course.

P.S its super easy to drill the hole out for the EGT probe in the manifold when the turbo is off the metal shavings will just fall right out of the exh. hole, you won't have to worry about the shavings getting into the turbo, because it'll be off
