Unhappy Truck Won't Shut off.

Hey DTR, Yesterday went to turn off truck, engine stayed running. I read a thread awhile back about the same thing, I found a two prong female plug hanging loose near the injection pump, but for the life of me can't find where it goes! It's a weatherpack connection and looks like it had been plugged in. I ended up smothering it last night but would appreciate any ideas, Thanks once again.

Shutdown solenoid plunger, probably has the rubber tip damaged. Its on the part with all the lines coming out of it, right on top.

That connector has nothing to do with it. Probably the water in fuel sensor.

There's a lever on the side of the pump, you can use that to shut it down.

There is a shutdown lever on the side of the ip to shut it down manually. Usually when the wire on the fuel shut off solenoid is removed the engine will die. Your solenoid must have died on you. The articles are in the sticky.

I doubt it, a dead solenoid is a no start condition. It probably ate a piece of rubber off the plunger.

Ya, it will start right up, the water sensor is still in place, I just had never seen the other connector there, but then again I was not looking for anything.

Right on top? is there two other single wire connections on it?

Look at the rear of the pump, at the big square block where the six injector-lines are screwed in.

Now look right on top of this square block, just behind that flat steel bracket; there you will see a screwed-in plug, with an electrical terminal on top and a wire plugged to it; THAT is the shut-down solenoid.

Due to space limitations, you cannot screw it out with a wrench; some have managed to un-screw it by carefully tapping at the base with a chisel.

Screw it out and fish all of it's parts out of the hole; there should be a rubber-tipped plunger and a spring.

Put the plunger and spring in the glove-box and screw the plug back in.

Now, connect the cable mechanism of your choice to the shut-down lever on the driver-side of the pump and mission accomplished.

If you the the throttle cable bracket off the engine you get good access to the solenoid, 10-15 minute job to swap out the solenoid/plunger.

There's a VW parts supplier selling them for around $10 if you wind up needing a new plunger.
