Truck is still running badly
Truck is still running badly
As in my previous thread my truck starts fairly easy but will smoke a blueish white smoke really bad and miss and sputter . It runs fairly smooth at an idle but will run like *#@! when any amount of throttle is applied. I did find a couple weeks ago that my injection pump was loose and could move around. Could my truck be acting this way cause the timing got retarded? Or is it like everyone i talked to and is an injection pump.
So far this is what i did to try to fix this.
I put a new lift pump on that didn't help, Ran a clear hose to the IP inlet. Pressurized the tank found no leaks, replaced my high pressure lines, replaced my steel return line from the IP to the Tee fitting on the back on motor(it was rusty and broke) I ordered the leak down adapter to do a leak down and compression test. I am going to try and upload a video and let you guys hear and see this thing. Thanks

retarded timing will make it run bad. i think i remember you saying that it was on the factory mark though. if that is the case i would not think the timing would have anything to do with it, assuming that the previous owner did not advance the pump a tooth in the case.
was this a gradual problem or did it happen all at once?
also, have you changed out the fuel filter? if you did not while your in there i would take a look at the fuel heater gasket. they are a common leak.

I only stuck the hose from the inlet port on the Ip right into a can of diesel there was only a couple air bubbles but they got worked out quickly and still ran bad. i am 99% sure i put the lined up the marks. Yes i am on the way to to Cabelas. I can still drive the truck but it takes a while to be able to be driven.
It started almost instant it wasn't gradual really. I am pretty sure i remember putting the timing to the factory mark but that doesn't mean its not bumped inside the case like you said. it could have even moved when the pump was loose cause it would move around quite a bit. I change my fuel filter back in September. i am going to check that out. I still think that it is something air related cause it will clear up and run fine, but it might take up to an hour to clear up.
Let me know if you need anything. I too will be heading up to cabelas this week for a little last minute Christmas shopping (and some stuff for myself
) and could swing by.

I check the injector lines and the factory timing marks. They are all good. my pump is within the serial number range for the recall so i am going to check on that Monday. I am still convinced its air because when the truck runs for awhile it clears up. If i turn it off and it cools for about .5 -1 hour it misses but only for 1-2 minutes.
! am puzzled...
The factory timing marks were lined up perfectly. So i advanced 1/8 inch. It fixed my problem it runs better then before this all happened. i don't know why the factory marks weren't enough timing but it runs excellent again. Thanks for everyone's help and offers to come and take a look.
