1st Gen. Ram - All TopicsDiscussion for all Dodge Rams prior to 1994. This includes engine, drivetrain and non-drivetrain discussions. Anything prior to 1994 should go in here.
Came out this morning to discover that the old Dodge parts truck
that had been sitting for years behind my shop was stolen.
Had my other vehicles keys out and locked up but the parts truck had keys in it.
Didn't think of taking the keys out of that one, didn't think they'd try for an obvious clunker, it didn't even have any brakes!
but obviously it fired right up and went on it's way.
My first thought was that it was swiped to harvest the diesel engine for somebody's swap.
Called the police and reported it, they called me back to say they found it in parked in town abandoned.
Looks like someone was trying to save on taxi money.
To keep this from happening again I disabled the truck by unplugging this wire from the battery feed.
Starter wont engage with this wire unplugged.
Connector can be loosened to break contact
and left slightly plugged together to appear as though
its not unplugged.
Well in my neck of the woods almost every house on my road, even the hippies with the organic veggie farm, has 3-4 hunting rifles, shotguns, ETC.
Heck half the pick up trucks on the road have rifles in the back window.
Great outcome for as bad as it could have been. I put a simple single pole on off switch between the fss and ground and hid it in a readily accessible but hard to find place. I even camouflaged the wire at the fss to come out of the harness and appear factory. Some one has to be real sharp to catch it. Simple and cheap and you don't have to open the hood, let me know if you want a pic...Mark
I guess you Canadians are so polite they figure (wrongly) that you don't need guns.
Nothing like a soft target for bad guys.
I would be building a 40 cal pellet gun with a Co2 tank for propellant!
