Trouble keeping O/D engaged below 65mph

I have owned a stock 1992 5.9 4x4 with A/T and 354 gears since new. It will constantly kick out of O/D on even a slight rise unless I am going 65 or so and never will kick back in unless I let off the throttle. Then I have to "baby" it back up to speed because if I give it too much throttle it will kick out of O/D again. This is even without pulling anything. This is my second transmission both act the same way.

Is there something I can do to remedy this?

Also what mods would you guys recommend to boost power a bit without being too radical on the engine or the wallet?

Thanks

There are answers to both your questions in the sticky. Lots of reading on how to turn the pump up.

A TPS adjustment will probably clear up your OD issue, check the sticky for info on how to do that.

Thanks I got distracted by mechanical troubles with my car, but now I'm back on the track of getting my pickup transmission to behave. I'll take a look into my TPS.

Thanks

Thanks for the info. I got distracted by problems with my car so haven't got back to my pickup in a while. Are the Stickies gone? I can't seem to find them but I'm new to the site. I found one post in the FAQs that talked about checking TPS voltages but nothing about procedure to clean them. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks !!!!

After some looking around I found the stickies. Great stuff, I also found a post on steering coupler rebuild which I'm doing tomorrow as well. Thanks a ton for pointing me in the right direction!!!!

Amen to that. My switch is mounted on the steering column and I love it. After a 6 hour trip to my dad's with it bumping out every few minutes I fixed it permanently. It was the best move I made on the truck. It didn't take long to do either.

Hey LongTime....I was experiancing the same problem on my truck especialy after the engine/trans warmed up; it would never stay in OD. It ended up being the valve body in the trans. Found one off an older junkyard truck and trans runs like it did when it was new.....all slushy again! Hope this helps...
