Hay bail at 65mph........
Hay bail at 65mph........
Dude in a little 1500 Chevy gasser toting a dozen or so bails with no straps piled in the bed of the truck... Simple laws of physics should have come into play in his pumpkin somewhere before driving, but didn't...needless to say at about 65 he lost half his load, swerve and avoid all but one as they explode across three lanes of the interstate.... of course the one bail i find still had at least one hay hook in it.... tore up my muffler and tail pipe quite a bit. Simple fix, sawsall to the 4" leaving the resonator/hanger for now and toss everything else
Sounds pretty good now. But his stupidity pushed my stack plans a bit ahead of shedule, stacks are still on order but should arrive next week. Just glad the resonator ends after the cab so I'm still legal, and not sucking CO into the cab, looks funny with no tail pipe.
Lucky thing the traffic was pretty light...by all rights it should have resulted in a serious pile up. Cops showed up so I guess he recieved a good stack of papers for being stupid.
Okay done with my
just needed to vent a bit.

I had that happen while riding my Electra Glide down the interstate. Nothing like dodging haybales at 65mph with a 900lb. full-dress Harley!
After missing all of them,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, the wife made me take the next exit,,,,,,

RATTLINRAM - manuvers like that riding 2up, impressive... its amazing how well you can ride when you HAVE to. BTW whats a scoot like that actually weigh? Think my GL1000 weighs in a little over 800 so gotta be a little heavy handed for fast manuvers.

dave no it wasn't me but I live by the deforest hwy v exit and I have a project going on in the wis. dells so I drive that hwy alot and see a lot of stupid drivers down that hwy. plus its the only 3 lane I know in the area.
jaconst - Dang, now I'll have to carry that junk all the way from the garage to the dumpster
I live just north of the Dells, and I make the run from the Dells to Madison for work so I get to see a lot of the stupid drivers. The 90/94 route is the quickest and easiest most of the time, unless I take the 2 wheeler, then I use the more scenic Hwy 12 route.

It was a bad weekend for Chevys carrying hay bales.
Sunday, after a I was returning home after a quick trip to Amarillo (650 miles) I had A truck pull in front of me carrying 30-40 bales all piled up. He hit a bump and three fell off. I was lucky I only clipped 1 (didn't feel a thing) . Now how do I get all the hay out of the joints in the bumper, hood, doors, etc.
Glad you were ok.

(The wife really hates that!)

Sometimes you cant avoid situations like these,(which im sure was the case with DAKAR) But this is what I have learned from past experiences of following behind dump trucks, 18-wheelers, or any truck carrying a load.
If you come up behind one of these trucks, go around them. Its your own fault if you follow behind a truck with an unsecured load and some falls out and hits you. If I cant go around them, I slow back, and give plenty of room incase something does give way, or until I have a clear pass.

Not sure if its even possible to be related to the hay bail deal, but I noticed a funny shimmy when downshifting thought it was from the front end but i must have been wrong (i think the day after i met the hay), but didn't associate the two, this weekend while picking yet more straw out from under the truck i grabbed the drive line to pull myself under on the creeper... everyone knows what that soooooo familiar 'clunk clunk' noise means, told me all i needed to know... rear U-Joint is toast, no bearings left in the cap and even the rim/seal for the cap is gone
Go to the parts store and they wanna know what the size of the joint and bearing cap is... HUH? Come to found out they list three very different uj's for the 1 ton. Bought all three and they'll get two back tommorrow
Scariest part is I drove the wifey's Durango to work today, could have sworn there was someone else in there talking to me, took me an hour to figure out it was me...i could actually hear myself thinking!
Be safe out there fellas, there's lots more Chev's out there haulin' hay!
