47RH swap is the logical upgrade (94-95 2ndgen trans)... its the a518 with a lockup convertor. Its does require the 2ndgen flywheel housing and matching starter though.

The A518 with a few decent parts in it, making the rebuild go at around 3000 instead of 2200 is a pretty decent transmission. It does need real cooling, as in a fan cooled frame mounted cooler, if you are going to do sustained hard pulling, but other than that, unless you are cranking ridiculous torque, it's a decent transmission.

Believe it or not, I let AAMCO Transmissions rebuild my A518 two years ago. After talking to the manager he understood how much torque I was making they put together what so far has been a good transmission. They actually stood behind their work when I fried the paint off the torque converter. But, it was a $3300 in house rebuild.
