Bell housing or adapter plate that the starter bolts too?

Advanced Adapters has a custom bell housing for sale so you can re-use your 1st gen adapter plate and starter [auto OR manual] for the NV-4500 swap, BUT you need the Getrag clutch fork to make it all work.

A diesel NV-4500 has the same input spline as a Getrag...

Don't forget about the cross member, there are differences between the 2.

Swapping to a NV-4500 means neither 1st gen crossmember, an auto or a Getrag, is going to be a bolt in affair...

Yeah the NV4500 2wd conversion is a lot tougher to get a working tranny cross member....mine was a large piece of channel across the frame rails with the stock NV4500 2nd Gen tranny mount. I tried modifying a 1st gen 2wd unit to use on the NV4500 but could not make anything work, even tried cutting and piecing one together....again not go.

Sounds like BS to me.
I have done lots of auto to manual swap on 1st gen 5.9 Cummins trucks.... never had that issue.
Installing a late 70's 360 motor out of and auto in my old '69 manual shifted 'Cuda ...That I had an issue with the pilot bearing fitting in a slightly smaller pilot bearing hole.
I would not trust these "experts" info.

Aren't the pilot bushings or bearings located in the flywheels of a Cummins?

When I replaced my clutch and flywheel recently the pilot bushing was in the flywheel. The crank makes no difference pilot bushing wise. I don't know about the auto trans torque converter as to whether it locates in the crank or the flex plate.

The 1st gen flywheels usually come with a bronze pilot busing.
The 2nd gen or aftermarket flywheels come with a needle bearing in the flywheel.

I just did the reverse of what you are doing and had to source a different motor plate (bell housing) for the A518. The manual plate is deeper. I have the fly wheel and motor plate if you are interested. To be sure they are right for your application I can get the part number off the plate if needed. Good luck with your swap.
