Towing impressions

Well, I made my run out to Clarion, PA yesterday. I brought an 84 k5 blazer back. It was a little heavier than the Chrysler I took out, but not much. With the blazer, I weighed 15,200. Round trip was 615 miles. My honest-to-gosh hand calculated mileage was 18.3! I ran 60-ish on I-81 and close to 70 on I-80. The only thing I changed from my sig was I pulled a touch back on the timing and I disconnected my AFC. Couldn't use much pedal at all, but I pulled the long grades in 4th @ 63mph, around 2350 rpms, 22psi and the pyro hung in there at 725-750 (post). The mileage blows my mind, as I would have been thrilled with 12-13 I really learned where these engines are at home--it's just amazing how even a crusty old rig like mine can shine! I know 15k is not a ton of weight, but seeing how I have the lamest turbo ever and no I/C I was glad to be able to keep with traffic and not burn the old girl down. I've got a pic pending approval so everyone can see how shot my rear springs are Time for air bags

The last long distance haul I did was up to Elmira, NY to pick up my brothers 96. Rough guess I was around 19,000 lbs. gross. Averaged 13 for the round trip at mostly 70+ mph.

I could pull any hill I hit on the way back in OD if I was doing at least 70 and I couldn't go WOT in 3rd due to excessive egt's at 30+ lbs. of boost. Kept the boost under 28lbs and I had no problems with egt's 1100 max at that foot setting.
