Hx35 ?

Is it possible to use an HX35 on a first gen intercooled? My buddy got a '96 motor for parts so I snagged the turbo. Supposedly it was replaced pretty recently so I figured it be worth having. Hoping maybe it could be used on an Intercooled 1st gen. If not what is a good upgrade on a '91-'93? Thanks for any help.

Yes it can. And if you want to keep the 12cm wastegated exhaust housing on it you will need to move you exhaust back about 1 1/2". There are a bunch of guys who have done this mod.

Oh and by the way welcome to DTR.

Thank you very much. I'm glad to see everyone on this site is so helpful, unlike alot of other forums I've been on. I am going to keep the wastegated housing but go with an aftermarket wastegate. Thanks again.

Isn't a 913 pump a 215? I thought the 215's didn't come til 97 and 98. Plus it will only have it if its manual not auto

It was a manual truck but, sorry he is using it on his truck. His pump kept loosing prime so he is going to swap it. Sorry again.

Another question for you guys, the exhaust. Should I probably just have a downpipe made? Since it seems as though if I used the stock '96 downpipe it won't clear the firewall. The truck it's going on has 4" exhaust on it anyway.

My downpipe is shortened for clearance. The 2nd gen downpipe will not fit.

Alright, thanks. Any recommendations on aftermarket wastegates? The one on the HX is blocked off.

Pick up another used 12 cm housing. They are not expensive.

Unless they welded it shut you ought to be able to make it work again. What did they do to it?

There is a bolt threaded into the housing and stuck a bolt in the rubber hose. I got the bolt out and put a fitting and new piece of rubber hose on. I was just wondering if there were any better wastegates available.

That wastegate should work fine. You could go to an external gate, but it will be expensive and it isn't really worth it. If you need better boost control, check out wannadiesel's wastegate mod: https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...threadid=57304

Yeah, just hook that thing up to a source of boost. I teed into where my boost gauge is hooked up. It should limit you to 22-25 psi, which is plenty for a mostly stock truck. If you want to change the point where the wastegate kicks in, buy a boost controller. I got mine from Lower Shores Performance off Ebay. Looks like it's made of plumbing bits, but it's cheap and it works perfectly.
