Hi guys this is my first time posting hope i do it right!! i want to build a single use truck! to tow my 12k pond trailer! i allready have a dodge pu that works hard! pulling this trailer! will start from the ground up with a used chassis like a bus or 2k truck i like the cummins eng dont like computers! thats why i posted here! got any suggs will run an allison auto have bad clutch leg! I chose the 2k chassis for the brake and the ability to change stuff!! what would you do now IE eng???

Well, if it's only a 12 thousand pound load, then you don't need anything too special. Any 5.9 liter would pull that, and of course, any modified 5.9 liter will be able to pull that really, really fast. I'd just keep my eyes open for the first deal that comes up; I've never seen a running engine sell less than $3,000, but other people say they can get better deals than that.

And since you're planning on mating it to an Allison, then you'd need to do some research and find a bell housing, engine and tranny that are all compatible with each other. Can't be of much help there.

Just post pictures when you're done... Sounds like a cool rig.

As much as I hate fords they use the the cummins in their larger trucks and allison the big three sell to each other for mid and heavy duty just not the passenger/pickup stuff start with a large truck salvage yard search and you my find you combo allready bolted up in a 550/650 super duty or gm 4500/5500/6500 [or if you are close to mexico the dodge 4500/5500]also school buses etc and one for you Eric

thats why i was looking at a bus chassis i can shorten it but most ive seen on the net are 12v type is there a certain cummins to look for or to avoid which has the best inj pump with no computer????

If you want to avoid electronic injection pumps, then just avoid the 24v ISB engine.
12v in a bus chassis should have either a VE or a P pump.

They sell them new with various cab/chassis beds and boxes all 2 ,3 and 4 ton 2006 models me thinks dodge has the market cornered down there were as they gave up competing in north america against ford years ago So i assume they have been doing so for many years hence wrecked 12 v older stuff run a google search ...... type in dodge 6500 [2 words]...and the first result will be a picture to back up above info
