Top Turbo, Bottom Turbo

Soooooo if my H1C (with a stage IV upgrade) would be a good top turbo, what would a good bottom turbo be? I have a ball bearing Garett GT-35, would that work, or should I use an HX-40 etc?

I'm going the BHT3B route for my bottom turbo and I plan to ''stage III'' my H1C. Once the big turbo gets spooled, I don't think the extra airflow of the stage IV will be missed. After wading through many, many twins threads over the last few weeks, it seems lots of these 'twins on the cheap' setups using the HT3B are simply using a stock HX-35 as the top turbo with excellent results. I finally decided that waiting for a $1600+ big single to spool every time I shift just isn't for me.

EDIT: looks like there'll be a few more 1st genners with home-grown twins running around

I see many 2nd and 3rd genners running twins, and 1st genners have this setup, and do POD's flow enough for a set of twins?

POD's are ok if you think 350rwhp is good enough. HT3B off 855 and N14 Cummins. HX40 is too small for a bottom turbo. Look for a hx60, s400 or ht3b on big Cummins engines.

I have a GT35 76mm ball bearing turbo sitting in the garage that might make a great lower. It's supposed to be good for 500HP, and since my POD's are apparently only good for 360 or so I should be OK for a while. Rather have a BHT3B but I don't!!!!!

76mm should be plenty, but I don't know anything about it's flow rates, or any of that fancy stuff!!

B2 is 75mm!

I think having someone try something other than an HT3B or B2 would be great. I think exploring the ball-bearing/Garrett/Turbonetics worlds is a great idea and could help find better turbos. I would really like to try a ball-bearing single, but the money is a little tight. Go for it, and be sure to keep us updated constantly!

Will do. Now I just need to find a compressor wheel! I dinged mine taking the housing off like a complete fool. Think I can super glue the little chip back on?

p.s. My GT35 came off of some big diesel, so it should work well.

is the 76mm on the inducer, or the exducer??? i'm running the bht3E for a primary. working out well so far. i think i'll be pushing the limits here pretty quick though. it's a tiny bit smaller than a 3B all the way around. i would look for a nice big turbo with a wastegate already on it. not the easiest to find, but would be well worth it.
