I just redid my VE pump and I just tightened them until they were good and tight. Just a good 3/8 drive ratchet, snugged up then 1/4 turn.

Thanks, the reason I'm asking is that the o ring blew out was that 1 of those bolts was 2 turns out. The threads seamed ok. I was going to locktite them and if they held torque, I was golden, if not I can put some mini studs in there. I looked in the sticky and couldn't find anything. Does anyone know what size those bolts are, as I can then know the torque.
Has anyone used a product called seal all? I was going to lightly coat the o ring with this?
Thanks, Artie

the bolt is 6mm witch is close to 1/4" in that case the torque is 90-100 inch pounds. just put oil on the oring. The oring dont blow out what happend was the bolts on the cover plate came lose locktite them. This happend to me also whene I got the pump off I found all the orings to be hard so it best to put a seal kit in the pump. common things to happen to VE pumps the head & rotor spring brake, the cover plate screws come lose, and the throttle shaft bushings ware out. ken

Thanks kensmachine! I'm gonna run and get a o ring kit. I'll probably just replace the defective part and keep the kit for the future. I believe everything else in the kit can be serviced with the pump on the truck, Right?

all most all the rest can be. but I would not do the head @ rotor oring on the truck. plus its easer to do it on the bench then over the fender. Ken

The bolts on mine were round with a torx head fitting in the middle. Definitely replace the O-ring with a new one. My original VE pump was leaking from that plate, and when I opened it up the O-ring was twisted up like a coiled snake.
