What kinds of tires are you all using? I'm going to need to new tires sooner than I thought. Probally going with the stock size unless 235/85 r16 something different is recommended? I'm mainly going to use it on the highway but if i need to I want some traction off the pavement. and it does snow where I'm at. what do I need to look for?

I'm running an el-cheapo brand in the stock size--235-85-16. I like the stock tall-n-skinny look, and I also like my speedometer to be accurate If you tow, stick with load range 'e', otherwise, I've heard some folks run 'd' for a smoother ride.

american prospectors are the latest i have tried. i'm running 285, the stock 235's are only $103 lifetime balance and rotation from a local place. i've been happy so far but only have like 5k on them.

well this wont help but i rum 35" michey tompsin baja claw on mine plenty of offraod traction. a lil loud though

if you want a offroad tire with great wear and longevity from my knowledge the toyo open country mt is the best for the job.. I have heard of guys running those for up to 50-60'000 miles and they arent that noisey.. they also have great traction too.. on and offroad.. im from the snow too and thats what i would like to run i jus dont have the money for them..

I'm running Cooper STT's 235/75/16. They are pretty quiet but the front tires wore out after 7 months (but its a dually with a cummins so any tire is going to wear fairly fast) $160 each times six (ouch). But the day after I got them I pulled this guys F-350 4dr,longbed, SRW 4x4 and his 30 Ft camper out of a muddy field at Dover Speedway. I was rewarded a life time of free entrances into the Nextel Races (and a place to camp out at, though I only live 15 Miles from there). So were the tires worth it, he11 yeah.

You didn't state if your truck is SRW or DRW.

If you need traction, miles, and ride quality, I highly recommend Maxxis Buckshot Mudder size 235-85-16 LR-E.

Don't let the big lug open tread fool you; these tires will outlast anything else out there and balance easily.

For a steer axle tire, it is hard to beat TOYO Open Country with the closed rib tread, not their all-terrain tread.

My truck is a SRW 4x4. I would like something thats going to last a while. whats the average life of tires on a heavier truck like this?

I was running D range tires on the front for a while and they got tore up pretty fast. I would stick with E range tires.

Mileage depends on the condition of the vehicle and many other factors.

My last set of tires had just over 100,000 on them, mostly interstate pulling big gooseneck cattle trailers.

Not to knock anyone's truck, but the second generation Dodges and newer, especially 4x4, are tire eaters.

I have yet to see one that the front tires wouldn't dip out.

I have seen several of them that wouldn't get much over 10,000 before the tires were so out of shape that the whole truck would shake.

i have seen 3/4 ton an 1 ton trucks with the toyo mt open countrys lasting up to 60,000 miles towing loads.. I would say i think the mt has the best longevity ive seen in a long time.. and most of the tires come in a load range E

If you're looking something a bit larger, I've always run the BF Goodrich Radial All Terrain LT305/70R16 mounted on CenterLine 16"x10" aluminum rims. Seems I've averaged about 40K per set (till I screw them up somehow ). Excellent traction in wet snow/sleet/ice (North Carolina type).
