Time to ask some questions, about my smoker

91.5 with intercooler with auto trans

Do not know if anything has been to the pump, injectors, or smoke screw.

Did a Banks Turbo housing to I think 14 or 16 mm.

4" exhaust including down pipe, 14" flowmaster muffler

smokes at idle, smokes heavy off the line, smokes lightly at WOT empty, smokes heavy at WOT towing heavy

EGT's 800 WOT empty at 20-24 lbs boost
EGT's 1000 WOT towing on flat ground same boost
EGT's would climb off the guage if I allowed at WOT towing up hills

Does any of this sound normal? If not any suggestions on what to do to correct?

Thanks

I need to install an after market engine temp gauge, the stock one runs at the first line without towing WOT on level ground, climbs about half way to next line on bug climds WOT. Towing heavy WOT it climbs to just below the H mark but does not boil over.

Hey Rich,

Mine smokes all the time just like yours.. I figured best way to fix this is to just turn down the smoke screw..

That is my plan next weekend when i get some time...

I suggest you do the same..

Smokes at idle? What color?

If it's white smoke you have retarded timing or a bad injector.

Ken, the smoke screw will not do anything for smoke at idle. It will reduce smoke at low boost though.

With your low boost and EGT vs smoke level, I'd suspect an injector(s), or something in the pump needs some refreshing.

ALso check your intercooler system for leaks. Need to hook up a plumber's cap with a valve stem to the turbo intake and pressurize it to about 10-15psi, and listen for leaks. Spray some soapy water on ALL your connections, and look for bubbles. Some air leakage into the crankcase is normal, depending on where your valves stopped.
