Question My truck is a smoker. Problem? ->

Howdy do,

Well I had my truck reflashed over a month ago. Right after the reflash I noticed it smokes much more at heavy throttle application. It has smoke a little under these conditions. But now it is much darker. Similar to trucks running a box. So maybe the program turns the engine up a little. On a posistive note my mileage has improved significantly! Maybe as much as 2.0 mpg.

My main concern is at start up. I get white smoke and the truck idles rough. This occured after the reflash. Other than running rough at a cold start up the engine runs like a banshee!

So should I be concerned or is this normal? Also will all the smoke clog the converter?

Thanks guys.

I could not get mine to smoke when it was stock. Could not even make it smoke enough to notice with first pressure box. After hit about 20000 miles and 4 different performance boxes it does smoke when I want, but not on lower settings. I had the flash at about 7500 miles and it did nothing good or bad.

Not to steal the thread but my truck is 05 with juice and when I turn the chip completly off it smokes quite a bit but only in higher RPM's so what I was thinking is the converter is getting clogged and when it gets higher in the RPM's it ios blowing it out?? Can anybody help me with this and if it is I guess Straight pipe?

I have had 5 different boxes on my 04.5 600 over a year period. I have 28,000 miles now. I have afe intake and Banks Monster Cat Back exhaust. I think it would take a lot of over fueling to clog the Cat on one of these engines. I am sure it will eventually happen, but mine does not seem that way yet.

I dont think a clogged converter would cause black at high rpms, I could be wrong. It would only be the third time today though.

my 600 didnt smoke when i first got it. at about 2000 miles it started putting out a small amount. with the straight pipe it put out less smoke. i got the reflash and it gave me that smoke back. when i added the edge ez it seemed to smoke a tiny bit more. at 18000 miles i took my EZ off and got a Bullydog Downloader and now it smokes enough to black out intersections. it is thick and black, and the cloud of smoke sits in one spot for a couple minutes before disappearing since it is so thick

Its not so much that the convertor is getting clogged up its more like soot built up in the exhaust system and when you get on it harder than normal it blows all that built up soot out. Ive noticed this on many trucks.

I guess that is why I dont see it. I dont go very long without blowing out any soot build up

my truck smokes when i get on it real hard. it leaves a nice trail of black smoke as long as i stay in the throttle. it is stock with the exception of the straight pipe and mpc pipe. but that shouldn't make it smoke. it started smoking like this after i got around 2000 miles on it. it doesn't seem to be effecting anything so papaperk... i don't think you have anything to worry about.

I was just gonna bring this up again tonight. Back in the day it went away, first time ive ever ran the tank empty. not to were it died, i usually keep her above half a tank. Anyway. Then i was sad it was gone, kinda fun then it came back, I get decent mileage, no noise issues no engine lights. But tonight i thought hey ill show off, Heard a hum like a air escape, I dont know how to explain it. Think if you had a balloon pop, only no POP just the air escaping. A HUGE cloud ran out and i was like uh hoh though i broke something. ran fine life was good. Ive been curious as to why these 600s do it. Think i should take it in but im getting good mileage she runs strong so i dont wanna screw with anything haha. So then I just ran her close to red line, 3100 or what not. worked good in 2nd at the 35-40 mph figure it may not be the BEST for the truck but well give her a try. All i got was a constant stream of haze, then went to pass and had a decent streem again. Did this for about 20 miles. but eventually i couldnt get any not even a haze to come out. So i have to wonder if they didnt overfuel the truck to get better mileage, sounds dumb but could happen. Or maybe they hold the wastegates open a lil longer. Put in some safty flash for the cheep air to air cooler? These are all things ive considered, I dont believe injector, ive thought that but too many people have the same deal with no problems for it to be injectors. Everyone with it seems to ahve the flash. or a 2005, My guess is its just gonna be the nature of the beast. I figure be happy some people pay a lot of money to put on these kind of shows haha

Mine didn't smoke when it was new either. maybe a little that could only be seen in headlights behind me at night.
Nothing but regular maintenance performed and NO mods, never.
She smokes like a banshie now when cold. When I leave the office in the afternoon I only have about a mile before I get on the Interstate and have to get over three lanes in about a half a mile to make my connection to another road - really going through the gears in short order.
Once warmed up, it looks like it did when new - can only see it at night when some idiot is riding my bumper and I goose it to leave him behind.
