Throttle Rod Dissappearing Act

So I was pressure washing the Cummins at the car wash so I could get that darn gushing tappet cover gasket replaced, went to leave and didn't have pedal. Looked all over for the link rod (still the original crappy loose plastic end one) and it looked like it went down the drain, and 8' deep sump filled nearly to the top with water and yuck.

Got out my spare key (coat hanger) and made a new one to get me home, which it did.

Then I started looking for a new one, found Mopar 05011955AB
Cummins 4089076 part numbers, looking for the best price.

Needless to say I didn't do the tappet cover, ran out of time... gotta do it soon, oil is now literally gushing down the side of the block!

DO NOT go back with the stock rod !! get yourself a piece of 1/4" fine thread all thread rod,2each 1/4"x1"bolts with loc washers and nuts, 2 each 1/4" rod ends( heim joints)if you do not have a good hardware store near, get them from Summit or Jeg`s, 2 each 1/4" fine thread nuts. take out the stock ball studs on your injection pump, throw them as far as you can. cut the all thread rod to the length you need , thread on the nuts( one on each end of the rod) thread on the rod ends (heim joints) adjust them to the length you need, tighten the lock nuts against the rod ends, and put in the two 1/4" bolts, loc washers, and nuts, DONE !! it will NEVER fall off again ..

What he said, except I still had the rod and I used both left and right hand threaded heim joints.

You can also get stainless steel parts so they will never rust.

Also what I have found on the side cover when mine leaked liked the Exxon Valdez the cover gasket had cracked right above the oil drain back hole on the side of the block and it just poured onto the ground.
