Broken throttle rod question
Broken throttle rod question
My throttle rod snapped in half yesterday. I was able to get it back running 200 miles from home with some wire I had in the tool-box, it held fine. Anyway where do I get a new one? From the Cummins dealer or Dodge auto place? This is the first part so far i had to replace not sure how you go about getting engine parts for these thing? Thanks, Sonny
First check with your friendly Dodge dealer to see if the recalls were done. If not they will do it on the recall at no charge. If it has been done, you can either buy the linkage at the dealer or get a couple swivel joints and threaded rod and duplicate the old setup. The good swivel joints and rod are about $25. and the Dodge setup is over $100.
Yes, It was the threaded rod that broke. Don't know how? It did almost get me killed. It happened going up a VERY BUSY-steep Hy 18 near Maple Valley, Wa, which is a very dangerous busy highway and no safe place to pull over to fix things. Its broke about half-way in between those arms or levers, maybe a little closer to the front of the engine. The metal its made out of looks cheesy. There is no stress on it because you can freely move the levers etc and cable going into the cab. Thanks for the replys BTW
I wonder if rigging a secondary wire along side the threaded rod section (ball to ball) would be a nice safety feature. A little slack in it so when the rod breaks, you know it, but the pedal will still work. Hmmm....
