Throttle indexing

If I indexed my throttle ahead a tooth accidentally when I did my gov spring and AFC grind, would that effect how far the fuel screw will go before runaway? My pyro just doesn't seem hot enough...

Yes. Did you have to move the idle way up to get it to idle?

A fair amount. My fuel screw is presently at the max safe setting, and with that, the idle screw is out about 1.5x the width of of the stop nut worth of threads and that gives me an idle of 825 hot. Ok, that wasn't too clear...about half a pinky-nail width worth of threads!! It just seems like I should be destroying my pyro (and pistons) with this setup, but I'm really not. I'm not overcoming the wastegate, either. If I mat it in 5th at about 55 it hits 35psi and hold, and she does go like a *******, but I'm out of courage to go any faster before I hit 1200*. From all I've read here, it seems even the more mild pump tweeks will put a hurtin on the baby H1C, and I'm just not seeing it with my truck. I know, I know, I need a FP gauge, too, but I read something about the indexing, so I thought I'd ask

I don't think so; the indexing of the shaft just sets the tension, or lack thereof, on the governor arm. I haven't messed with mine yet. Got a road trip tomorrow so I don't want to fuss with anything This weekend will tell. I plan to set the index one spline closer to idle and then ramp the fuel screw to compensate. I think I'll have my buddy at the ready with a piece of 2x10 just in case she runs away on me

Just ran into the exact same thing. Yes. Try to turn the lever Counter clockwise 1 tooth and reset. I did the same thing, and I had to back the fuel screw out a few turns to get her not to runaway. Dave was able to get me back in line.

Well, I finally got around to messing with the indexing. I *think* I was off by a tooth...dang things are small and I need new glasses what happens when I hit 30? Anyway, I finally got to see a runaway, which was scary. I had a 2x10 at the ready, but I was running the fuel screw with one hand and the throttle with the other. I had the linkage set so that with the fueling I started with I could stall the engine by letting off all the way. So, I'd idle it at about 500 rpms and turn the fuel screw 90*, then burp and rev to see how it reacted. Eventually, I got to where it started to hang up even when I let off, and it was only another 15* or so and she just took off I had the screwdriver right on the fuel screw and backing it off that 15* (plus a bit more for safety) set her right down to idle. You really need steady hands to turn that screw down when she's revving for the moon So, now I'm about 90* away from the 'float' and 110* away from runaway--and I found out the scientific way Next, I re-indexed it to idle (it seems the idle position has little to do with runaway---I had it set to stall when I let off and she still took off when over fueled) and took a ride. I definitely got some more fuel somewhere in the mix, 'cause my wastegate has been happily controling things at 35psi, but I romped it in 4th and buried my 40psi gauge in mere moments...and mere moments later the pyro was flying past some 4-digit numbers....and there was smoke up top...lots more than before. It didn't feel much more powerful, but that's only natural considering my present air-packer situation. Not sure exactly which bit of fussing helped--it's too darn cold out to take notes! In any event, I'm pleased to know I won't be wasting my $$ on more air. Now if I can just unload these 17's...

Good Job.

Idle position shouldn't effect the runaway fuel setting. You are "rocking" the assembly that holds the "tensioning lever" when you adjust the fuel screw, so eventually it gets to a point where it can no longer open the spill port enough to kill the engine.

Just need to trade those wheels for an aftercooler and turbo . . .

Ahh, if only those wheels were worth the price of even a turbo Ahh, I'll put 'em up on e-bay here in a day or two and get some of my money back I want to head right for the stage IV, but I'm afraid my 12cm will be useless and that my 18 will take half a tank of fuel to spool...so why not just try an htbg? My h1c already has over 400k, so I've gotta be pushing my luck at this point. As for the charge air cooler, I just stumbled on a big rig junkyard this afternoon, so I'm gonna go pawing around for a water-to-air setup and see what turns up
