Thermostat question

For our trucks, did they make different temperature thermostats.

I cant get mine to heat up, (dont know what is in it) and was wondering if they made like 180-200 thermostats?

What is stock temp? TIA

Stock is 180 degrees. You can get a 190.

after a lot of no heat problems i put a cummins thermostat#3802968 in my 1989.don't forget if you have an early 89 the head needs the water passage enlarged.i also had no heat problems in my 1990. put the cummins thermostat in it and also did the trick.they hit me $38.88 a peice.i think that is quite expensive.the only difference i can see from others are two rattle pins.all i know is they solved my problem.also i found when you first start the cold truck make sure the steel line running over the thermostat housing from the head heats up fairly quick.then you know your thermostat is working correctly and you have no blockage there.

Thanks for the info. I have my radiator blocked with cardboaed, and even at that, it barely goes over the first line in the gauge. I know the gauge works....will have to do something pretty soon.

Hi, now that the cold weather is upon us, I too need more heat. I wonder what "precision" thermostats would fit?

Mine used to not heat up, so i installed a 190* i believe and i can keep my windows down half way when its 20* out and be comfortable. So in other words it improved mine 100%.

Autozone sells a 180 thermostat for about $18, and a 192 for about $14.
Both are Failsafe, the ones that can't fail closed. That is the one for a '90
Dodge Cummins.

id get a thermostat out for a second gen 24v. its bigger, but also hotter. from my experiences you'll have to shave down the outer ring/flange doohicky to get it to fit in the housing, but after that it will work just fine. i took the housing off mine so i wouldnt have to make a million trips from the grinder to the truck lol

I installed a napa 180* for $7.99 and the temp gauge fluctuated the whole time. I switched to a geniune Cummins 180* for the $40 and now have steady open/close. Worth the money! Goes to show you get what you pay for.

I found one today that is a 195*. I doubled checked with the parts guy and he said it was for my diesel.

This is a different install than my 90 was..(.install sideways..maybe?)..but wont have time to put it in till first of next week.
