There is a metal impact bar under the plastic but on most cars you would only hook the plastic. What a dumb idea.

This may date me, but I remember a bumper ****** scene in the cult classic movie "Thunder Road." That would have been in the 1950's.

Wow I forgot about that movie.

Just thinking of the guy soiling himself when he underestimated the torque of the cummins as it drags his car with all 4 smoking tires down the freeway and can't get the hook to release, like hooking a 200# stingray on a 20# line

Off the shelf technology?

I think all of the new cars have a system where the entire front or rear bumper falls off the car allowing you to drive away from the scene of the accident for safety, your license plate stays with the bumper so it is easier to identify.

That would probably get the same response as when LAPD got AMC Matadors for patrol cars or Baldwin Park Police got Checker Taxi Cabs

Speaking of stoopid. What does this bumper snatcher have to do with first gen diesels?

I see a lot of potential for it having something to do with a first-gen. Imagine some unwitting Californy rookie cop pulling up behind a plain white old square-body Dodge, and suddenly the smoke starts rolling, and a certain magazine writer holds up a sign in the back window "WE'LL TALK IN A COUPLE HUNDRED MILES!!!!"

I wonder what would give first- the brakes or the tires?
