Stuck in 5th Gear

There's a 93 here for sale but the owner says that it is stuck in 5th gear. Any ideas as to what the cause of that may be?

Tranny needs to come out. Probably wouldnt be a bad idea to re-bearing and syncro while its out too.

Come out? Can you be more specific? What would cause it to be stuck in gear?

5th gear

I dont think the trans needs to come out i helped glhs repair his at the strip take your shifter and tower plate out look in there you will see two u shaped metal forks get a a big flat blade screw driver and push each one back and forth till you get them free then make it so they are together and they make almost like a square you should be good to go from there be sure to start it to make sure its out of gear then reasamble.

Yeah, worst case scenario, you need to buy shifter forks, or have one machined if one is broken. One broke on my truck. Just had it welded and machined. It was done in a day. If anything, it will significantly decrease the value of the truck, and you should be able to pick it up pretty cheap. Only problem is u wont be able to drive it.

I bet the 5th-reverse shift lug has the corner broken off. It lets the shifter fall back to neutral, while the trans is in 5th. There could be other problems inside the trans. Pop the shifter out and you will know.
