Spindel or Bearings ?

Removed my left front wheel to get a better look at my upper & lower ball joints. Noticed my drum was (is) rubbing against the brake rotor, a place about 12-13ins. long. Opinions please, bent spindle or bad bearings. I did pull the cap and checked the outer bearing, was not to loose, full of grease. And "yes" the lower ball joint is loose ( fixing to do both up&lower both sides), just never seen this happen before.

I'm not sure what you mean by "drum" if you have disc brakes......Ben

The drum area i am referring to is the part that holds the bearings, sorry about the confusion. It is dragging against the bottom edge of the brake caliper, but only in one place not all the way around. The ball joints on the other side are also bad, but it doesn't drag (rub). Hence, the reason for the question. If i knew how to post pics. they would save me a lot of embarrassment !!!!.

Take it apart and find out.

Bearings and seals are cheap and readily available. A spindle or hub.... could be a hunt. www.car-part.com

u2slow, i did pull the cap and took off the hub nut and checked the bearing's tried to move the rotor up down and sideways w/ a bar, no movement. This made me think it might be a bent spindle, i still haven't ruled out caliper wear, will do more inspecting. Thanks for all reply's.

Maybe not the spindle itself, but instead some other area of the steering knuckle...Those few I've seen bent usually had some evidence with displaced rust/paint somewhere in the forging...This is hard to explain, but look for an area of the surface that just doesn't look "right"......Ben

You went that far and didn't take the hub/rotor off the spindle?

If the rotor/hub turns on the spindle without wobble, and the bearings are in good shape, you can rule those out.

Allright, u2slow, you shamed me, so i went back out to my 91.5 D250, and crawled "back" under the truck (again) w/ a bottle jack. And proceeded to jack it up (again) and remove the wheel (again).
I then threw the wheel, and tire as far as i could (that was about 6"), then i painted the rotor, hub, everything w/ white marker paint.
Ever so slowly i turned the hub,,,, Ahaaa!!, found where the rubbing started and ended. "IT's the outside brake pad", the clips that hold the brake pads had about 1/8" gap and were dropping down onto the hub/ rotor.
I gently wedged a screwdriver under the BP to hold it up and w/ a pair of Vice gripe plyers i squeezed the clips (2) down, leaving about a 10ths. gap. Gently spun the rotor/hub and,, the sound of silence, no rub marks in the white paint. To quote a friend of mine, " We can fix anything but w/ a little time and patience we can fix it right", (some of this tale may be exaggerated).
Thank you u2slow, coffee's ready, whosdunit.
