Speedometer and odometer not working

The gears in my speedometer were broken and falling to peices. I replaced them with new gears and I still have no speed or odometer. What do I need to check now?

Check the parts at the T-case.
The square drive will round out where it goes in the T-case, or the VSS can poop the bed as well.

There is also a few ground splices that fall apart in the wiring.

If the above mentioned square drive is good, check for a good ground to chassis on the plug at the VSS.

Well this is turning out to be a mess. I pulled off the 90 degree reduction gear box and found the drive shaft from it going into the transmission was broken into. How in the world did this shaft break? The box gears still had grease and it turned smoothly grabbing onto the remaining shaft. I removed the vss and checked it for continuity. Every few degrees I would get a closed circuit so it is working. Now I hooked up the vss to my drill to test the speedometer. Nothing no matter how fast I spin it in either direction. I rechecked the vss and confirmed it was still working. I checking the wire connector at the vss and was getting 5 volts on one pin and continuity to ground on the other.

I checked the voltage on the 3 prongs on the back of the speedometer. 5 volts on the bottom one, 12 volts on the middle and ground on the top pin. I also pulled the motor out of the speedo and made sure it was not binding. It turns free and the new gears are still good.

So I have no idea what to check now. It seems like it should be working by driving the vss with the drill. I started off real slow and had my wife watch the speedo so I didn't over speed it.

I guess my speedometer is burned out. To rule out the ecm, I hooked the vss directly to the 5 volt pin on the cluster and the other side to ground. I ran the vss with my drill in the cab. Nothing no speedometer or odometer. Then I pulled out the odometer motor and found that the odometer is working. The new gears are binding. I can get it to turn a few times before it binds. So not sure why that is. However the speedometer doesn't do anything. The motor that needle is on freely moves with no binding. So I guess something in the circuit is bad.

So I guess I will looking into getting an aftermarket speedometer. Do any of you have a part number for a vss that will screw directly into the getrag? The nut on the 90 degree is bigger than the one on the vss. Plus I don't want to have to buy another 90 degree box.
