help with my odometer please

I have a 1992 dodge W350. The speedo works. The odometer stopped working so i changed out the gears in the odometer . from the sticky posted on here. because when they took it apart sure enough they were broke. So they put it back together and now it works sometimes and then it doesn't. And when it stops if you bang on it it will start working again. They took it apart and they said it looks fine. How do i fix this. Any ideas.

Thanks alot

Probably a bad speedometer head. They are expensive new but there are a lot around in junk yards.

Blow out the assembly with air and be sure theres not a tooth from the broken gears in there. Then pull the armature out of the motor that turns the gears and wipe off the oily looking residue(actually melted petroleum jelly) wipe all the internals of the motor. Very carefully reassemble and turn the gears to be sure of engagment. Be patienTook me three tries!!!! but now works fine.
