Shutdown selonid

Has anyone tried the genos garage 20.00 shutdown solenoid or the larry b's?
Where they reliable. Napa wants 92.00. Mine died in the ve truck and the pump is up 3turns, governor spring, and fuel pin. If i replace it is it just going to die again?

You can buy the shutdown solenoid, genuine Bosch, at Hans Auto for $10.00. Same solenoid on the VE pumps Volkswagen ran for many years.

Mine last about a week, then back to 5th gear clutch dumps.

I have been running a 15 dollar VW solrnoid for 2 or 3 years now without problems. Cheap enough for me to carry an extra...Mark

There has to be something fundamentally wrong, ie wrong part # - 6 volt solenoid. Maybe a damaged seat under the FSS.

It eats the rubber tip within a week. Many times it's cheaper just to but a whole new unit. Darn piston lift pump!

All the VE needs for fuel pressure is positive supply. Anything over 0 is probably adequate, and over about 8 pounds is actually counter productive. It has an internal vane pump to boost to operating pressure.

You should put a regulator on the lift pump, or change a spring if that's an option.

If you've been overpowering the FSS like that, the seat may be damaged.

I probably should put a regulator on. Sick of not having shutdown. Can't use my cooldown timer!

I put a Geno's FSS on my truck just over a year ago, so far so good and it's a daily driver. I have to say though I didn't realize you could get one for a VW for $10.00, that soulds even better. My truck is bone stock, if that matters.

I've read that having your power screw turned in or "maxed" blows off the tip of the plunger a lot quicker. I would think that's only if you're going WOT more often, since I can't see how turning your power screw in and not using the extra fuel would accelerate the wear of the tip.

I do wrap the crap out of my engine, no doubt there.
I think I need to make a urethane or soft brass tip for the plunger.

I've seen custom ones with metal tips. Seems to work well for some people. I prefer a locking pull cab over the solenoid though. I've had mine fail in the closed position while I was driving.

I threw away the tab and put on a ring tongue connector.

I did that as well when I installed the new one. Seemed like those factory connectors kept coming loose all the time.

My connector was fine, jumped 12v directly to it as well and it wouldn't start. Had to take the plunger out on the side of the road to get home.
