Replace clutch master cylinder?

Following my recent trans swap I decided to replace the clutch master and slave cylinders. The slave cylinder is fairly straightforward but the master is a mystery. The new cylinder appears to have a sort of insert and turn slots and a lock tab. Is this how it's done? If so what's the easy way to unlock the old one? Can it be done from under the hood?

I'm also thinking of removing the pedal assembly to restore the worn metal on the clevis pin. Has anyone ever done this? I saw the thread on improving the clevis with a ball joint but I have this brand new welder that needs to be used.

Thanks

Edwin

The master simply takes a quarter turn to remove from the firewall after you have unhooked the linkage from the pedal. If it's original to the truck the master does have a screw threaded into the firewall to prevent it from rotating. This must be removed before making the quarter turn for removal. Often times the screw is no longer their as most people don't but it back in the firewall.

Master cylinder pics?

Just to satisfy my curiosity, does anyone have a 1st gen with the stock clutch master cylinder? If so could you snap a pic of it and post it here?

I looked at the picture of the $250 kit from SouthBend Clutch and the master cylinder looks exactly like mine. Including the reservoir. I'm wondering if a PO replaced mine with a SB unit or if SB is just selling the stock unit.

I already have the master and slave cylinders but I'm looking for the plastic line that goes between them. Napa has one for like $59.00 but that seems way to high for a piece of plastic tube. Seems odd to me this would be made of plastic anyway.

I replaced mine with a RhinoPac master/slave unit. It came all put together, bled, and full of fluid. I just bolted it in. I think it was around $200. Worth it to me not to have to hassle with bleeding it etc.

Master cylinder reservoir hose?

Well I have almost all of the parts to replace my clutch cylinders. One remaining part however is the little hose that goes from the reservoir to the master cylinder. What kind of hose can be used?

Installing the Master Cylinder firewall grommet?

Does anyone have any tricks to install the big round grommet that comes with the new clutch master cylinder? It looks like it should snap right in the the firewall but as soon as I get one side in, I think, and I try to press the other side in the first side pops out. It's nearly impossible to see the hole because the grommet covers it.

Super Frustrating!

Also, Don't buy the Power Torque master cylinder from O'Reillys! It's a file to fit model.
