Rear Sway Bar

I was thinking of installing a rear sway bar.

Other than new, what years etc. would I look for to find one in the junk yard?

Thanks

If you want one that will bolt up without any fabrication, you will have to buy aftermarket. Otherwise you'll just have to look around and find one off a newer truck that you think you can make work.

I had just ordered one from summit, and it wont fit. Its supposed to go over the driveshaft, kinda in front/on top of the rear end, but I have this dang fuel tank thing........... Its from addco, there are a couple of models, but obviously I don't know which one works.

Did you have to drill any holes when installing it? Do you notice a different when driving the truck? I really am thinking about getting one.

I'm not the one who installed it. I just don't seem to have enough time. I did go look at just now and it looks like it used the existing holes in the frame. It also looks a lot stronger than the ones on 2nd gen. trucks. The guy who installed it said it was a no hassle set up. You can probably find the instructions on line. I bought it for a cabover I want but I don't have the cabover yet. I'ts been running it pretty much empty so I don't have nothing to compare to.

try jcwhitney, also. They carry the Hellwig line. I installed mine(2 hours) and it made a difference in the handling. Like it advertizes.

Cool I didn't know they carried hellwig sway bars. Did you have to drill at all?

No drilling...all bolt on. I have installed another Hellwig sway bar on my 2002 powerstroke, and looked at tons of others, and typically sway bars make a moderated to extensive "loop" over the top of the rear diff. The Hellwig sway bar from JCW has the loop turned underneath and close to the front, underside of the diff, just under the drive line. I thought it was a mistake at 1st, but directions show exactly that. 1 1/8" solid tubing (powdercoated)w/ all fasteners and hardware for $189.00 if I recall corectly.
